Tampa, FL C6 needed for pulstar test.
We need a bone stock C6 or C5 to run the Pulstar plug dyno tests. We will give the car owner the plugs to keep or a brand new set of NGK's, there choice. Your car will be dyno'd free & after the test if you want while the car is here we will offer a complete dyno tune for $199.
We also would like a modded (Heads/Cam) car to test as well that is not from our shop (to keep everything un-biased).
Let us know.

To bad I did not know this 2 weeks ago when I was in your shop..
I even asked a quote for a dyno tune....for my stock C6..it was out of my $$ range..so I ordered a new hood for my car..

Looks like we have a good selection here! I will PM you guys in the next few days after we decide on the date to make sure everyones schedules work. Some of our staff will be out this Thurs-Sun at the NHRA Div 2 World Finals (almost all the staff race competively and 2 made the finals). And we need the film crew there as well.

Looks like Thursday at 9:30 AM is the test start. We have picked Ferguson & Frissina for the test cars & want to thank the others who volunteered their cars as well. To show appreaciation we will offer a full dyno & driveability tune for the others that offered & were not picked for $399 complete.
Stay tuned for the results.

Test's are underway. We are starting with Chuck Ferguson's 2006 bone stock C6 A6 with no mods.
We are starting with 87 degree's F & 14% humidity in the dyno room.
Coolant & Engine oil temps are being kept within 2-3 degree's for each run with cool-down in between.
Base run after a dyno & car warmup: 307 RWHP with a factory rich A/F of 12.0-1 above 4200 rpm.
First run with the pulstar's shows 308 rwhp, but the A/F improved to 12.3-1 AND spark knock throughout the run pulling 4 degree's of timing. We are going to do a 2nd run to try and see what is causeing the spark-knock. If the sensors had not picked up knock-retard it makes sense that we would have seen a deffinate improvement, but we are in cool down right now and will post back with run 2 shortly.

Pulstar plug run 2 show's 313 RWHP for a 6 hp gain, all conditions being equal except the 4 derees of timing retard was not as drastic until at the peak of the pull. We did pull 3 w/out changing anything and had 6 degrees timing pulled due to knock & had 309.95 RWHP, so we are making the assumption that the plugs do work, but on a high compression motor such as the LS1-6-2-3 we are seeing detonation due to the improved burn & flame-front. I will go one further and assume that on a lower CR engine, such as most passenger cars & trucks we would see the claimed improvement. We do intend to continue at a latter date on some late model SUV's.
Right now we are swapping in new NGK TR55's and will do a base pull to compare & see if the spark knock is still present, then continue by tuning the car with the NGK's.
The Heads/Cam car is next......

Base pull w/NGK TR-55's 314.20 rwhp with no knock retard except a very brief 2degree pull.
Conclusion on the Pulstar plugs for a C5-C6 is that we do not reccomend them until the problem of spark knock is solved for a high compression ratio engine w/knock sensors.
We do believe that the plugs WILL perform as advertised in a lower compression engine as the tests did show a definate gain if the knock sensors were not pulling timing. Also, the differance in A/F between the stock plugs & the pulstars, although smal, shows what we believe is an indication that combustion is sped up.
We are tuning the car with the NGK's right now & will post results and then on to the Heads/Cam/Headers/CAI car.

The heads/cam car just made 422 base pull 1, cooling down right now before we do one more base pull to look for any irregularities.

Now here is the real surprise....the Heads Cam C6 just made 5 rwhp MORE w/the Pulstar's over the NGK's, and there was NO spark knock with either plug.....we are in cool down right now before the next Pulstar pull. We will do 3 pull's w/out touching the tune to look for any issues & get an average.
