Re: Mike69 burnout video (Dave68)
Nice burnout but S-rated (112 MPH) tires? What's up with that?
Thanks Nitro!
Mojo... I guess you have the new puter working pretty well now huh?
Thanks bud!

Re: Mike69 burnout video (Mike69)
That depends on if you want a drag car only or if you'd like a good-handling car. S-rated tires have sidewalls that flex way too much for serious handling. It'd be pretty embarrasing if a Lexus IS300 with Z-rated tires blows by you in a corner. Even Integras have decent speed-rated tires. I've had s-rated, H-rated and V-rated tires on my 68 (for the last 22 years) and believe me, there's a huge difference between your S-rated tires and V-rated tires.
Hopefully, you'll see for yourself soon.
Good luck.

Mike,
What RPM are you launching at for that burnout? Any idea what your torque is at that RPM? Pretty sweet. Loud too. :chevy

Re: Mike69 burnout video (Dave68)
Just two weeks ago I was Running Skyline drive with more than 80 other vettes - most of them C4's and C5's. We were corering at speeds in excess of 70 mph. I hung on right to the rear bumper of a brand new C5 with a C4 right on my butt. The C4's Traction Control Kicked on more than once from what I understand - right Mojo??? More than one guy in C5's made comments on how well my car handled - two of them are here on the forum.
Now My suspension is far from stock but I can guarantee there is no - ok well maybe there is one or two of them somewhere, Lexus IS 3000 (crap BTW) that is going to loose me in the twisties. If a C5 couldnt do it, I know a POS IS3000 lexus wont - hell they wont even out corner my BMW. I'll run any road with your C5 you want the way the car sits now. I can promise you wont lose me.
As I said I will be moving up to 16 inch rims and tires - and the only intention by doing so is to improve handleing, but don't be misled these cars handle pretty damn well with sidewalls - and there is no way I'll be going to a 1" side wall. ---- Thats Rice -- and unnecessary.

Re: Mike69 burnout video (sharklover)
I get those fears too! The thing that keeps me sane is the maintance. The rear, u-joints, clutch are all new within the last 4 years as well as the entire suspension. After seeing a couple of broken U's here I'll be doing the U-joints agian this winter, just for some cheap insurance.
When I twist them on the street, I never get wheel hop. Happened once on the track, but just once. (i think the track was very sticky that day, and I got off the gas really Fast!) When I dump the clutch on the street - and when I do it to warm the tires at the track, it's actually suprisingly smooth. There really isn't any big clank, when the tires let go they seem to blow away pretty easily - the hard part is keeping the car in one place. I'll be installing a line lock this winter (right before the new rims and tires go on) to cure that little problem. Wait untill you see that Video~! :D

Mike you have to install the line loc. It is just cool to sit there and let the tires fry and not move. It is a very easy install and the thing works great.

There can be no comparison between a suspension design that is essencially 40 years old to that of a C5. Now I'm not saying that I didn't enjoy my 68 - I really did, especially since the ZZ3 was popped in (Heck, I wish had both!), but as far as handling goes, it just could never be in the same league as my C5 - night and day!
If you've never driven one, you owe it to yourself to take one for a spirited drive; I guarantee you that you'll be impressed.
