Tips for getting your car ready for the drag strip?
I was just wondering what "magic" everyone does to get their car ready for runs at the drag strip. I know some people change tires, some lower their current psi in their tires, some play around with timing, some refill their N02 bottles.
My magic = set/check timing to make sure it is 36 degrees, double check valve settings at the track, loosen alternator belt (only good for 2 runs at a time due to battery drain).
What do you do?

Aside from what you have allready listed i'd bring along an assortment of jets to play around with between races. Check all the fluid levels too. And take out any unnecessary weight.

Saving unnecessary weight is easy, for a 130lb saving, use max. half a tank of gas and remove the spare wheel.....that an easy 130lb you don't have to power down the strip......john :chevy

We have found that running on just the battery or sipping the belt is NOT the way to go. Your ignition system needs a good 14.3 volts to operate correctly, especially if you have a MSD. You will lose more power from misfires than you will gain from the belt looseness. Most if not all of the bracket cars around have put alternators back on the car. The better ones anyway.

Maurice..
Half tank gas (or less) and spare tire removal are great, (Dont forget the jack).
Also, new spark plugs are a must.
I usually made a couple time trial runs on the old plugs, (not usually very
old), then installed new plugs. I always picked up one or two tenths.
Also, I removed the air cleaner lid, and filter and left the base on.
No such thing as K&N years ago. I would not do this at a dusty track.
In searching for that little extra, I would remove the choke butterfly.(Holley)
(Not really sure if that actually helped)
