Default Cure for poor gas mileage

its called foreign cars. this is the newest one in our collection, i know the color's different but i get my vette and she gets her toys. its actual got a lot of room (seeing that she 6'-2" and she dosn't have any problem getting in or out.) no we just need a bigger garage. we have three cars and only a one car garage.

*drool* black vette *drool*

yes I too have a foreign daily driver, with all its 42 MPG glory.

If I had it my way the vette would be daily driver, but Im not aloud to sell the import...I would in a hart beat, then use the money I got to pay for gas for the vette for about 6 months. :jester

RoyArms;

I lost my garage to stupid dogs(I hate dogs by the way). Now when I work on it it sits outside next to the pump house with a blue tarp begging for suspension parts to be stolen. I could move the parts into the garage at night, but then the d*mn dogs would chew them up.....I will never own a dog...

At least my Vette lives in the garage. :D

Actually bought the wife a VW Cabrio 2 months ago. Great little car, $22k fully loaded (leather heated seats, power lined top, etc). Anyway, kept the Ford Exploder as a parts getter for the Corvette. Prioties :chevy

This is my winter car. 400SB(soon to be rebuilt and swapped into my 'Vette), 750 Holley, Energizer 266 cam. I cannot relate to good fuel economy, but it does a great burnout.

Gas is a buck a gallon... drive the Vette until the oil reserves are all gone! I drive my Vette 110 miles a day every single day of the year (in Denver - no joke). I keep it inside in my 5-car garage, and the wife's Escort stays outside (the other 4 spots are taken up by restoration projects, engines and GTOs). She drives the Escort 2 miles to work every day. I wouldn't give up driving the Vette on the drunkenest day of my life...

Im with you, Ben. Who cares about gas mileage. WE WANT POWER!!!!

75 Vette = 12 MPG
2001 Dodge Dakota Quad Cab 4x4 (5.9 L engine) = 12 MPG
1997 Ford F250 4x4 = 10 MPG
1979 Chevrolet K2500 4x4 Dump Truck = 7 MPG

We don't need no stinking Gas Mileage!

Something is wrong here - my daily driver (1982 Ford Granada 2.8i Ghia x) which is a pure beater (we call it a "Battle Wagon") is, according to the trip computer, doing 19.4mpg average  My Vette gets better economy than that (but only if driven "sensibly" ;) ).
Those new VW Beetles are everywhere here - they've become some sort of fashion statement.

If possible, I'd recommend fitting the factory water booster to it. I've "inherited" the maintainance of my Mums 900 Turbo, which has a water booster & the wastegate adjusted for max. boost - it makes the standard 900 Turbo seem a real slug! The acceleration is awesome & means that it can play with & beat the "big boys". After giving it a service & "just going for a test drive, Mum" ;) , it's hilarious watching M3 BMWs, etc getting smaller in the rear view mirror, while the owners get really :mad at being beaten by a 22 year old car with rusty wheel arches
Great fun - I've just got to get the Vette to pull like that at high rpms :)

Alwyn678:
My Dad got the water Booster within a year of buying the car sometime in 1979. As far as I can remember it cost about £500-00 (installed) at the time. To give some idea of what that would be in $, it cost almost the same as a full stainless steel exhaust system. The booster came (I think) from Saab UK so it may be worth talking to your main Saab dealer. Not long after we got it, Saab stopped pushing the water booster (within 2 years), giving the reason that the newer 900's had a weaker bottom end than the early ones. This reason sounded like :bs to us & I think the real reason was that Saab were making a big play on the safety aspect of their cars & the water booster turned it from a very fast car into a lunatics machine!
The wastegate has been adjusted for max boost because the Turbo unit needed changing 3 years ago, not from being worn out, but because it had seized up through lack of use!!!! My Mum just potters down to the shops in it - a true "1 careful lady owner" car (+ a mad son :) ), so the turbo never really gets used with the wastegate adjusted correctly. It can't be driven at WOT in any gear other than top as the revs just rocket from idle to the stop on the tach & I can't change gear fast enough to keep up with it! It also snakes down the road in the lower gears & is hard to control. It pinks/pings badly when both the Turbo & rpms well get up past the red line! I wouldn't advise adjusting the wastegate as much as my Mums has been, as it becomes a beast & there's a real danger of blowing the whole thing apart :(
I much prefer the 900 body shape, especially the convertible, to the new Saabs - & it's a pity that Saab have made their new models look like every other new car on the roads these days.
If you do chat to your Saab dealer & get anywhere, please let me know as there seems to be some mystery around the water booster (one Saab garage, on seeing it, were convinced that it was something to do with a heated screen washer system!). I'll see if I can find any of the original information on it for you.

I don't have any "cures" in my driveway. Daily driver is a 2000 Toyota 4 Runner which drinks gas at an alarming rate. But for fact I have 3 kids, I was all hot for the Subaru WRX which is an absolute blast to drive and is a real steal. It apparently gets decent mileage. However, at least the Toyota will pull me through the worst that winter has to offer. Sadly, that isn't far off!
PS. The vette is not "put away" yet....won't be until it absolutely has to be!!
