Default How rare is this Z?

http://minneapolis.craigslist.org/car/417413584.html

Sounds like this is NOT one of the original Rippie Black Widow cars, but a later modified ZR-1.

Discuss.

I think only one (#6, red/black '92 ZR-1, ??last known to be in Austin MN?) , was the only '92 of the original 8 Black Widows. I don't know anything about the 7th Black Widow but with the "WidowMaker" description I doubt he's talking about an original Black Widow...maybe it's one of the later performance mod LT5s Rippie did...see info @ this link: http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/...lackwidow.html
I never heard of the term "widow maker" used describing ZR-1s.

Only used when you don't check with "her" before buying a ZR-1.

The original 8 were built in 93. This one says it was built in 96. It is also 385 cu in, and yes the only 92 was red. However,
to answer the original question, I'd say yes DRM 385's are rare.
But it's not one of the 8 Black widows.

Always nice when the real thing pops up, Thanks for the peek at a legend's legend. You original "Black Widow" owners ever get together or is that a once in a lifetime thing like the 5 early Grand Sports? And as a side question, did the wheels get updated on all the "Black Widows" or were they whichever ones that corresponded to the model year ?

This is not a Black Widow car at all. They have a nice car for sale and should be able to sell at that price. We also never called any package the "widow maker".

Is this car Claudio Ballard's original car? Number 195? If so, then it was called the "Widow Maker" Just finished reading about it in the Nov/Dec issue of ZR-1 Legend mag.

Great write up.

Not to hijack this thread, but does anyone have a good photo of the logo next to the red "Corvette" on the engine. From what I see, it could be unpainted (black) or ???. Thanks for the help.

Here are a couple if these are what you are looking for....picture of LT5 as stock before VanDorn made it into the AutoMasters version of a StreetSkinner with Black Widow paint

Actually the car in my sig is not the Black Widow. That's my 95 which is for sale. once it sells I'll change my sig back to the BW. Mine is black on black, I'm the second owner, Steve Wait was the original owner.
The only get together was at the NCM back in the mid 90s.
As for the wheels, DRM put Dymags on mine, but several did have OE wheels. Just depended on what you wanted on your car and how deep your pockets were. George C.
