Default Put on the Passenger side Mirror this weekend!!!

Everything went well except for I had to fabricate the screws to install the mirror cause I bought it used( no screws)...It looks great and functions but I still need a (set) nor anchor screw that fits properly....I will probably have it fabricated...All in all it was not that difficult..However drilling the holes was terrifying for me...I will post some pics tomorrow :D

I know what you mean about the drilling. I'd hate to screw up. Did you use a template or something? I'm going to intsall mine soon.

Welcome to the dual mirror club :seeya
I know it's not the classic look, but I like it :yesnod:

I wonder how many people had this done by the dealer.
Wasn't the passenger chrome mirror a factory option for a couple of years?

Yes I used a template...slvr77 asked for it so I am mailing it to him now that I am done...But I am sure that he would send it to you once he is done with it..
I personally really like the look of dual mirrors!! My car seemed to lack symmetry befor now :jester .....Actrually any chrome I can add is a bonus in my book!!!

Alwyn:
Can't wait for pics. Sounds like the job went well... Are the stock mounting screws sheet metal, or machine screws you have to tap for? I trust no paint was damaged!!

Andre:
Glad to pass the template on to you after I'm done. I'll post when finished.

No I went and bought some self threading screws that went right into the sheet metal..No problem.....Right now I have a temporary set or achor screw that mounts the mirror to the bracket untill I can have one made....But the trick is to use tape.over where u are drillingo...My paint did not chip at all.....And placement was perfect!! I am still suprised how thick that darn fiber glass is

Sounds like you pulled the interior door panel off. Was that hard to do and reattach?

How thick is the fiberglass?

foundvettelifeisgood, here's some pics of mine (http://users.erols.com/jerryp58/corv...ightmirror.htm, sorry, it's a big page).

Alwyn678, I hope you don't mind this post. I'm not trying to "steal your thunder" as the saying goes. I for one, will be quite interested in seeing your pics.

When installing a passenger mirror, do you need to have a backing plate behind the fiberglass for support? Or do you just use anchors? I would hate to have the glass start cracking!

From what others have posted on the forum, I am under the impression that the backing plates for the mirrors are fitted into the doors at the factory, whether you have two or not. Since two was an option in 77, along with dual sport mirrors, I am assuming my passenger side plate is there. I can't vouch for other years though. I'd definatly check before drilling.

Just anchors for mine (chrome). I think if you use the sport mirror, you are supposed to use an inside support. The fiberglass is at least 3/8", maybe 1/2" thick where the mirror mounts. I think you'd have to rip the mirror off to affect the fiberglass.

The door panel is a cinch....only four screws!!two at the top of the door and two in the handle itself It is a cinch..............it also has velcro pieces that help keep it attatched...Now as far as the anchor I attached it to the sheetmetal with-in the door frame basically I drilled them in and they self anchored be careful that they are the right size....or you could hit the window!!!
