Both are real professionals. Unfortunately, both have a fairly long wait time but it is worth it to me. I sent mine to Corvette Instrument. Have not seen it yet but I have been in contact and should be getting it in a couple of weeks.

Corvette specalities of maryland. They've done numerous sets of clusters and gauges for me and never a problem. If you discuss turnaround time they have always met my needs.

Guys,
You can do it yourself and save a lot of money. I did mine and it came out great. Just replace the speedo and tac faces and paint the needle. If you think they need to be repaired send them to a repair shop. My speedo cost me $100.00 to repair and it works like new. You can buy the other gauges new if needed. I took digital pics so reassembly would be correct. Took it all apart and painted it with sem Landau black. Use a new razor blade to remove the paint from the chrome and they look great. Clean the glass or replace it. It sure beats spending $800.00 or more and waiting weeks to get it back not to mention the shipping. I will be doing my buddies 65 396 roadster this winter.

I recommend a member here, Gldnkngt. Bill worked on mine with the primary problem of trip meter and odometer not working. The guages were from back in 63 with apparently nothing done since built, red line area faded so you could barely see the orange/yellow to red. I had some other issues with needle bouncing as well as tach need calibrating. Don't remember what he charged but do remember feeling very fair for the work performed. Turn around time was very quick. He knows these old cars as his dd is a 66 vert.

I would definitely use him again. BTW, he has the ability to change the red line value of the tach.

I agree,I restored my cluster and it turned out great. To get paint off of the thin chrome edge around the gauges I used acetone on a thin cotton Tshirt wrapped tightly around my finger. I did this right after I applied the paint before it dried. I also used this method to get the paint off the letters for wiper, lighter and lights. Easy job. Taking the cluster out and putting it back in is the hard part. As mentioned above,take plenty of pictures as you disassemble the cluster.

65 Vette Dude, Great advice about the acetone on a T-shirt to remove the paint from the chrome trim around the instruments. It worked beautifully! The cluster is starting to look like new. Just waiting for my speedo/tach faces and 1817 bulbs from Atlantic Light Bulbs and it will be ready for reinstallation. Andrew.

Make sure you bench test those bulbs. I used a 9 volt battery. Also,if you haven't done so already,I highly suggest that you replace the tach and speedo cables. You don't have to replace the housings if you don't want to. I didn't replace my speedometer or its cable, going on the rule,"if it ain't broke, don't fix it." Big mistake. Fifty miles after I put my cluster back in,my speedo cable broke. You can take your old cables into any speedometer shop and they will make exact new ones in a few minutes for about 2 bucks a foot.,and you can pick up some good cable lube will your there......Good luck.

Go slow. Very slow or the flaws in your wiping will stand out like............

Same experience with Redline, did all the restoration myself except battery gauge and speedo/odometer, for the tach use a drop of machine oil (on bronze bushing) for oil pressure gauge same thing, clean pivot and re-lube.
Cost ~$125 including shipping, paints and one afternoon.

John did my 65 cluster for me, he did a great job. I needed the tach converted to electronic for my LS2 crate engine and he converted the amp meter to a volt meter, but leaving the original look. Red Line gives great service, always willing to answer a question. Very competitive proces as well. Tim

I just recently had Bill 'Rehab' my cluster and clock and I couldn't be happier. His attention to detail and quality if second to none.....He not only refurbished, but re-dampened where required so you don't end up with a fuel needle that bounces etc....He also re-calibrated all that required it.
