73 L48-auto-3.08-stall converter advice
I've got a mild 350 that needs some help. Until I get enough $$ saved to build my motor(SB400) I was thinking of switching to a 2000 Holeshot from my stock converter. I know it has a lot to do with my 3.08's, but my car just feels dead until 2000rpm's. Is anyone else using a converter like this on a mild performance small block?

I am using a 2000 stall converter on my car. I think that it helps a lot but then again, I went to the 700R4 at the same time. The 700R4 has a much lower first gear so it would be hard for me to say which one made the most improvement in my launch. Not to mention the new 383 that went in at the same time???
I paid $180 for my torque converter.

OR
I'm running the Holeshot 2000. Its good behind a mild setup that has the torque curve down low. Heat & gas mileage are the tradeoffs. Couple that converter with a good adjustable distributor so that you can get one of the converter's side benefit. The looser stall allows you to run a quicker advance curve. You can probably dial in more initial advance and less mechanical to be all in at a relatively low rpm. The quicker advance curve will help wake up even low compression engines.
Since I've added hedders, I regret not getting a 2500 or better yet for racing a 3000 stall converter. But if you don't have intentions of drag racing and are only looking at stoplight challenges, the 2000 is a good compromise.

Something else to consider with going to a higher stall is adding a transmission cooler. I put in a 2500 stall with my TH400 and 3.08 rearend and my transmission was DEAD within 3 months. Even though my transmission was old, I think that it dying was directly related to the higher stall. I don't know but it seems like a cheap addition for a relative low amount of money to keep the transmission a little bit cooler.
By the way - GREAT LOOKING CAR YOU HAVE THERE!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks Maurice-you too! Before I got my digital camera I had your sig pic for my desktop background for a few months! I installed a trans. cooler when I first got my car just to be safe. I think I'll give the Holeshot 2000 a try. I'm going to have my motor out this winter to replace the front seal on my trans. anyway(it's easier than dropping the trans I think). Does anyone run a Torquemaster 2000? It's about $50 less.
