For those interested in 700-R4 swap driveshaft length...
This was the stock driveshaft out of my 79 with a TH350 automatic. I switched to a 700-R4 which required me to shorten the driveshaft to 28 inches exactly. The transmission now resides in my 74 but I currently have things apart for a gear change and thought this would be a good time to document this piece of information. I measured from tip to tip

What is the legnth of a stock 1982 vette drive shaft? They were 700R' s from the factory. Did you have to modify your cross member for the rear trans mount? I'm considering this swap now and would really like some info, especially from someone who has just done it.. I have heard that the 200r is a stronger and more reliable trans. Is this true? I've seen a kit for about $90 that has all the fittings to connect the shift linkage and it contains the 700R pattern shift indicator for the council. Is this a good deal? I appreciate all the insite you can give.

one of the easy ways to check how much to shorten the driveshaft is to simply measure the lenght of the old tranny and your 700r4 and use that measurement as the amount to cut off the driveshaft.this works as long as you're not changing the motor mount position and most of us aren't.
