What is the weight of a 77 frame???
Has anybody a clue or even the knowledge what the weight of a standard 77 frame is?
Should be counted without any suspension or engine parts and just the bare metal of the frame.
I want to take mine to the sandblasters and they calculate the effort by the weight of the thing.....
Any helpful hints will be highly appreciated!

Give me a little time with this one. I have a couple frames up at the shop. I will try to get one weighed for you today. Stay tuned.

I have a 76 frame I just changed. The weight of it will likly save you some money as it is so badly rusted it must weigh 100 lbs lighter than any good frame

I'm having a little trouble finding a scale that will work for this job. I will have to take it somewhere to weigh tomorrow to weigh it.

I have the same problem getting the frame balanced on the scale If it Helps I got a 79 frame shipped to me the shipping wight was estimated by me at 600 lbs .the shipping company didn't alter my estimated weight. so it's got to be around that.

600? no way. I say something in the 150-250 range. My wife and I picked mine up and put it on a trailer. Could I be THAT far off?

There's no way a frame weighs 600 lbs., or else I'm just a monster. :boxing I can lift them up and throw them in the back of my pickup, so they can't weigh that much. I was thinking 200 would be max for sure, but probably 120 or so.

Re: What is the weight of a 77 frame??? (midget)
I tried weighing frames again and all three came in around that 150-160 pound mark. They are off of a 68, 69, and 81. It is kind of hard to tell exactly, because the scale fluctuates a little from movement of the frame, but they are right in that area. Sorry I couldn't get more exact, just don't have much of a scale for that kind of thing. These frames have all been pressure washed at 1800 PSI with the end caps knocked out of the rails to blow out dirt and debris, so there should be very little extra weight there. They are completely stripped down as well. Just the frame, and a coat of oil to prevent rust.

Paso. Methinks you paid shipping on about 400 extra pounds. It's no surprise the freight company did not dispute the 600 lbs figure.

I'd have thought the frame to weigh a LOT more than that!! Where does all the weight in these cars come from?? I thought it was from an 800 lb frame.

Oh well,
the 150 - 160 lbs figure is the same I thought of!
We were once lifting a frame with two persons and it was about the same as lifting a pack of cement (which is here about 110 lbs each) for one person.
I just wanted to be sure of the weight not that the Blasters talk me into a huge cost scenario!
Yeah, it seems like I´m going to rip of the body now and throw the frame at the powder coating factory for zinc powdering and color coating it.
What color do you recommend?
I thought of flame red, as the suspension is already this color.....
The body is dark blue pearl effect and the interior is silver grey leather.
Take a look at the picture here, these are the first efforts with the suspension already coated:
Send me your comments please - current choise is (as mentioned) flame red like the suspension......

Okay Okay I forgot to mention I was smuggling drugs in the hollow parts of the frame :) Wow no one hardly answered the post until I put my foot in my mouth. I'll check on shipping rates .com again to see if I'd have saved much for that shipment as it was uncrated and shipped from Sarasota florida to Saskatoon for 460.00 but it did have the whole front end including hubs and discs not a stripped down nothing attached frame. Like this even had at least .5 lb of fuel lines brake lines etc. I was happy with the flat rate they gave me need to support those Florida truckers :)

454 Big, That suspension looks FABULOUS. I love it. I would think the frame should be another color like a little but darker red, or a darker or lighter blue. But, it looks like you have a GREAT start going, so whatever you decide should look great. I want to see some pics when you are done. Later.

Re: What is the weight of a 77 frame??? (Dalannex)
Thanks, Dalannex!
All the VBP front and rear parts are flame red now, I´m still puzzled about the final color, but I still have lots of time!
The car isn´t disassembled yet and I have to fabricate trolleys for the frame and the body first.
What you couldn´t notice due to the poor picture quality is that the suspension parts which are shining in this pic are milled from stainless steel, i.e. the cup and the washers for the rubber donuts and the other washers.
If you would like to see a closeup, I will forward the link to it!
Took me quite a lot of time to get at this stage but now I decided to do it once (again) and do it right!
I´m only working weekends on the cars now, so its quite a long time to go.
Will probably have 3 months sabbatical next year, which will improve the finishing of the project for sure! :D
If anybody has a suggestion for the frame color, any opinion is recognized!

Well you asked. I would recommend black. I don't cae for all those different colors underneath.
If not black, then some dark blue or something dark.
