Default C1 - Tach And W/shield Question

Question 1 - Has anyone found an electronic tach that will fit into an original C1 guage cluster without modifications. I converted to an alternator (saving my generator and original tach) and am looking for an electronic tach to fit in the cluster.
Question 2 - Does the lower outer stainless trim get installed after the windshield is installed on the car...or does it have to be installed with the weatherstripping, lower channel, etc. as a unit. I've been fighting the reinstallation of the windshield and wonder if I'm doing it wrong.
Thanks a ton,
Joe

the lower stainless windshield trim is installed as part of the windshield frame assembly before the windshield is put on the car.

Why not just round up a 62-74 tach drive dist, have your tach recalibrated for the dist. This way, you retain your original tach plus retain a certain amount of originality.

The COMPLETELY assembled windshield gos on with ALLLLLLLLLLLLL the pieces installed.

VDO, Stewart-Warner, and AutoMeter all make small electronic tachs that will fit in the opening.

Default Proper Electronic Tach size for C1 1957

Most of the electronic tachs I've seen are either 5" or 3 3/8". The tach diameter you want for 57s is 3 1/8 inch. Just installed an AutoMeter 3 1/8" model from Speedway and it fits like a glove. $115 included shipping.

Conversions which use the stock tach face are now available from Corvette Central, Wilcox and others. You can buy a complete electric unit, or just the unit needed to use your old face.

Yes but be aware this conversion is for 1953-1974 models and are calibrated for 63 up. You have to make an adjustment for the C1s. Mine did not have any notification or instruction for this. It read over 1000 rpms high. I now have to take it back out of the housing to adjust it.

Corvette Specialties MD West sell an electronic tach that looks like the original. I bought one for my '58, yet to fit it though- but it looks great!
