Default Your first Vette ride/drive?

My first exposure to the world of Corvettes came in a classmates Blue/White '65 convertible base engine automatic. Rode in it two to three times a week in most all kinds of weather. What stood out was the shakes and rattles in what was then a seven year old car. It didn't impress much in the acceleration dept. but he could change lanes in the blink of an eye! I sure enjoyed those rides though I'm sure when it was my turn to drive he wasn't impressed with my Maverick! He also had a unique outlook on theft protection, he never locked the car! His reasoning was, it was a vert and if a thief wanted it they would just slash the top reach in and unlock it. He knew the car would be a goner anyway but at least the top wouldn't be cut up. Then when I got my'62 I found out what "shake, rattle and roll " really meant! Of course I wouldn't trade the Corvettes quirks for any other car, it's part of what defines a Corvette.

My first vette ride was when I was about 2 days old. My parent's only car when I was born was a new 63 coupe, tuxedo black with red interior.

First experience I remember I was about 12 and my Uncle took me for a ride in his (at the time) white 54. He stopped the car, got out and insisted that I drive it down the block. One and only time.

Tough to forget.

Default More than one memorable ride:

Best ride: Going to a drive-in movie (Thunder Road was the main feature) near Indianapolis with a friend and our dates in 1967. My date sat on my lap, his sat (mostly) on the console cushion in the mid-year.

First ride: Our two month old daughter being driven from Illinois to Arizona down Route 66 in our '65 roadster. January of 1972. She slept in a horizontal baby bed on the passenger seat. A typical Oklahoma ice storm caused big delays.

Anti-theft: Should have thought about that "unlocked doors" plan. While parked in our apartment lot in Arizona in 1974, some juvenal delinquent slit the brand new top from one side to the other. His take: the shifter **** and a flashlight.

My 1st ride in a Vette: '66 big block 'vert. Never forget that ride. I was in my late 20's and my brother-in-law's buddy offered me a ride. When he nailed that baby in 1st gear, the nose of the car went into the air and I honestly couldn't see the road. When he clutched her for 2nd gear, just for a split second the nose dropped, then back up again pointing at the sky. What an experience!!

I agree completely with this. My top is seldom up, no need to lock the car.

First ride, about 10, my brother came back from Nam early. 101st and screwed up his knee first week. They stationed him near home, his buddy had a 63 SWC. The two of them, me and another kid in the rolled up in back went to watch super sprint races. Fell in love with that car.

First drive, my 66. A real POS with a 307 and a butchered front end repair. Even a POS can be fun to drive.

Late fall, 1969; I was 16 and working as a car jockey at a local Chevy dealer in the Chicago area. I owned a '63 Impala 409 at the time.

Early one wintery morning I got to tool a new green 427 coupe around the lot and into the shop. It wasn't a very long drive and (luckily for the owner) there were lots of customers milling around so I didn't get a chance to exercise my hormones but it was thrilling nonetheless. I never looked at my 409 the same way again.

First ride..... a 57 FI that a friend of my brother's had in 62. Just about blew me away. It was Corvette love at first sight, ride, smell and sound.

First real drive. March 17th, 1965 when my 65 red convertible was delivered to Norris Chevrolet in Westfield, NJ. Drove it home and almost slept in it.

1968, came back to Ft Ord in CA. Another guy came back from NAM. He had ordered a 67 427/435 Silver Coupe. Got to ride in that a couple of times around the Monterey area. I was in love with vettes before that but that sealed the deal. I knew I would have to have one later in life. Nothing like a BB to get the heart pumpin.

My first "Vette Experience" was for the senior prom in '66. My father was a very good friend of the owner of local Chevy dealership and managed to secure for me a brand new 427/390 BB white convertible with blue interior and 4-speed with air. Picked up the car the day before the prom and proceeded to scare the daylights out of myself with all that power. (Hey, I was only 18.) Remember the first time I "nailed it", I didn't really have a good grip on the wheel and was probably sitting back a little too far, and nearly lost it. The prom was just as exciting but that's a story for some other time. Wish I could have kept them both though I'm sure the Vette would have cost me a lot less.

68 big block red 4 speed convertible in 1975. I was 17 and to that point I had never been in a car that could boil the hides at will.. This thing was scary fast....And talk about a babe magnet! The car was owned by a friend and he (and that car) are what originally got me into hot rodding and are most likely responsible for me spending untold thousands of dollars and hours over the next 30+ years..... Quite a ride and I ain't done yet!

Actually, not a "first" ride but from a movie "HotRods to Hell".

I was born in 1950 in a small town in NE. Penna. Vette's were rare but there were a few in our town. They really drew a lot of attention back then. One family in town would buy their son a new Vette every other year starting in 1960 and in the odd year, they would buy their daughter a Chrysler 300. Great cars. Anyway what sticks in my memory the most is when they bought their son( a friend of my sisters) a 1964 conv. fuelie, triple black. I was only 13 at the time and he came over to my school at lunch to show me his new car. Needless to say the crowd gathered. As he sees me drooling over this gorgeous car, he flips me the keys and say's "take it for a ride". I was on cloud #9. You can't imagine all of the 'OOOOHS and AAHHS" as my classmates watched a 13 year old drive away in a 365 horse corvette. I loved corvettes prior to that, but after driving one I became hooked for life.

now my story is not as good as everyone else's but it first started for me that i wanted a convertiable, so in my search i found a triple white '92 which i enjoyed for 5 years. after many car shows, i was always drawn to a C-2. so started my next search, which i found my '63, i NEVER drove or was driven in a C-2, going to buy the car was my first ever drive in one, well after that test drive, and trying to stop shaking, i was in love!

My sister was dating a guy with a riverside red swc and he let me drive it for a quarter mile, if you know what I mean. It took me thirty years to get it but I have one in the garage...

I used to play stick ball across the street from our house with all the older guys 3 to 5 years older. One guy came from money and one day he showed up with a brand new SWC all black, that was first ride I was 15. In high school two of my friends had vettes a 59 & 60 this is in 1964 Always liked them, never had one, till I bought my 60 in 2005, now she's mine till I die.

I was driven home from the hospital after being born in the same car I now drive every day, 33 years later.

I can't say I have a crystal clear memory of that very first ride, but I enjoyed countless trips in it growing up, and look forward to every ride I take now.

I got to sit in an early 70's coupe once that a cousin had when I was 12. Didn't get to drive one until I bought a '70 coupe when I got out of college. I've have several since, but I always remember that '70 coupe fondly despite it being the only car I've ever owned that left me stranded. Here's the current crop:

First ride was in a 1958 White/Blue Cove - 283 Dual Quad. That was in early 1961 when I was home on leave from Air Force prior to going to Okinawa. I was hooked on Corvettes from that day on.

First one I drove was 1963 SWC Daytona Blue - 340 HP. That was in April 1964 right after my discharge from USAF. Six months later I bought my 1st Vette 1964 Black/Black 327/300 HP 4sp

BTW.....The 63 SWC was the same one I posted recently that was wrecked. Click Here
