More hood woes
Well, I am convinced that I have the wrong hood for my 93. I got out this weekend and meddled around with it, and I finally got the sense of how the adjustments worked together, only to find the hood makes contact with the alternator when I try to close it. This is what I should expect if I had the wrong hood, right?
Can anyone give me a good idea of how to figure out the correct year on this hood? I'll hopefully sell or trade it for one that fits my 93.
The lady who sold me that hood promsed me it was from a 93. (sigh) I should learn not to be so trusting of folks. It's not like they have to intentionally lie to you to just be plain wrong.

Pre 89 hood will not close in a newer car. All newer hoods will fit any year.
Cannot help you identifying it but if it is aligned ok and still will not close I suspect you have the old type of hood. Sorry.

post some pics. there really isn't much clearance under these hoods. if it's far out of alignment a stock hood will start rubbing stuff. i know from the factory they rub the radiator shroud.

There are 4 versions of the C4 + all different versions from callaway ... LT1/LT4 had two versions.
Post a picture of the hood.

Ok, will post pics tonight. Topside, underside, or both? What seems to be the problem for me is that the original 93 hood has a deeper, longer 'indentation' than the new hood in a section that should rest over the alternator. I'll get the pics up tonight for sure and maybe someone can identify what I have. I'd love it if someone could tell me, "No, the hood is fine, you're just dumb and are doing it wrong", but I have a bad feeling it won't be that easy.

Ok, here is a top and bottom pic of the replacement hood, for those who asked. It's a couple of big pics, but I assumed detail would be required. Any thoughts? I keep asking myself if maybe I should just knock out the section that is hitting on the alternator and have done with it....

Does anyone know of an ID or something I can check? Basically, I am pretty sure it's not for my care, but I would like to be able to have precise year info so I could sell it to someone and make sure they know what they are getting.

Its not an 84 they have air ducts for the CF air cleaner and will not fit any other year (without mods)

Tried to check with my hood but cannot verify it one way or another. Yours is missing the wheel wells which makes it more difficult to compare. Cannot take a picture of mine as its is off the car and too heavy to handle while taking photos, sorry.

Yeah, that's the earlier hood. Most people would never know the difference unless it's happened to them. You can trim down the hood in the area and fill it in (so it looks normal),or get that piece off a broken hood in a junk yard and graft it in. Remember that is a structural piece , so don't cut it out completely (about 3/4 of an inch should be enough).

Just looked at my 95 hood..looking from the driver seat..the left side should have a much longer indent in the rib. the right side has a small indent and another beside and near the top of the rib beside the tire shield.

Well, I am certainly considering doing just that, cutting out around it and hoping for the best. Does anyone know if there are other problems with this before I start cutting? Am I going to run into another problem after this, or should it be clear sailing?

as others stated that’s not a 93 hood. I would hold off on cutting it. I think there are more differences than just the spot by the alternator. Once you start cutting you won't be able to sell it. I’ll post a pic of my 95 hood tomorrow. this way you can look at both pics next to each other and see what all the differences are.
