Default Mile deep shine on my Black 68 Vette......(NOW PICS!!!)

This is my 427th post - and it is for something special!

Today Sir Tripower and me were jumping around my 1968 L-89 Convertible, cleaning, degreasing, drying, waxing and polishing it!

I was very nervous today, cause monday some fellows returning from Florida brought the long awaited ZAINO Show car polish with them!
I saw the bottles and all the stuff late on monday night, barely able not to start with the whole process instantly!
Unfortunately I had to leave for a business trip to the UK the next day, so that I had to wait until today.

This afternoon was the long awaited day to put the first layer of Zaino on the car:
We carefully washed and degreased the car with mothers dishes cleaning detergent, then I rubbed the car dry gently with especially washed and prepared flannell towels.
It looked pretty nice then, but wait....

When finished this I used the Z-18 Clay bar to clean the surface from all insects and debris on the paint finish - guess what: it worked perfect (used a solution of Z-7 and water to lubricate the surface for the Clay bar.
Honestly, I was very sceptical about this, but it worked fantastic!

We then applied the Z-1 first step nourishing fluid - man, it looks great to see the stuff working in the paint! It seems like the car is sweating and then absorbing the applied fluid! .....and it smells so good!!!!!

After a short while we applied the Z-3, let it dry and began to buff it out -
WWWWWHHHHHOOOOOOOOAAAAAAAAAAA!!!!!!!!!!!

Now I understand the words on the Z-5 bottle: "...provides a mile-deep shine...."
And best of all: I have just applied ONE layer of Z-3 !!!!!

This is for sure no advertising post for Zaino, but its the best product by far I´ve ever used on a car.

Can you imagine the gloss and luster on a black Vette??? No?????
I couldn´t either! You will have to try and see - its absolutely amazing!

I wasn´t able to shoot a picture, cause it became dark outside, but as soon as we will have suitable weater - meaning sunshine - here in Germany (so, please don´t be bothered if I can post the pic next year... :jester ) I will instantly make a picture and post it!

What Sir Tripower told me is that with the next layers the shine will even be improved!!! I guess he shattered the 25 layer barrier on his car by far!!!! (Daytona yellow 1969 427/400 Tripower Convertible)

We stood aside and took some VERY satisfied looks at the car and were of one mind: "There is less better than a fresh waxed black Vette"

Thanks again to Sir Tripower for helping me in this encounter!
As an experienced ZAINO user he supported me very well and the result speaks for itself!

WOW - thats the mile-deep shine!!!

Can you use this on a regular SUV?Where do you get it?Will be waiting to
see the picture. My old 68 Vette might could use it but I think it is too far
gone and will have to have a new paint job first.

I too believe that Zaino results in a very different look from most waxes.
I take it that your paint is in very good condition, YES/NO?
I think that if the answer is YES, then Zaino results will be great.
But, for anyone out there like me with a, let's say, "less than show car quality" paint job, there's a good chance you won't be happy with the way all of the blemishes and imperfections stand out.

I'm not knocking Zaino so please no flames, but I think like anything else, it can't make "a silk purse out of a sow's ear".
It made a dramatic difference in the appearance of my car.
The good parts of the paint look GREAT, but unfortunately, the bad parts look really HORRIBLE.

Glad to hear you had good results. Remember to use the Gloss Enhancer between wax coats.

Jerry, did you use the Gloss Enhancer Z-6 between ALL Layers?

As I wrote above, I did the washing, Z-1 and first Z-3 layer yesterday but will proceed with the next layers in about a few days!
I am planning to use Z-3 and Z-5 alternating.
Do you recommend to use the Z-6 between EVERY step of Z-3 and Z-5????

As for the condition of my paint: The car was stripped to the fiberglass and painted new about 4 or 5 years ago. It hasn´t hit the road this much after the paint job; approx. 4000 miles in 5 years (as certified by the title)
The paint job is very well done, all large surfaces are very flat and not wavy, which is important especially on a black Vette, although some spider cracks on the front clip are visible (front hood hinge area) :mad .
Nevertheless - the gloss and luster is still amazing.
Weatherforecast for central germany is bad at the moment, I will keep the black beauty inside for a while not to ruin a whole saturdays work! :D

I got the ZAINO from Ecklers, which was the most comfortable source for me (friends of mine were on vacation in Florida and it was an easy pick up!)
Attention, Ecklers does not list the products on their webpage under ZAINO!
You should give them a call!!!

Check out what you want/need first and look at www.zainobros.com to check out the products and what they are for.
I decided to go the all inclusive way and took all the stuff they offered for my car.
Bottom line! Do it once and do it right!!! :D
Its not cheap, OK, but I think its worth the money!
.....and it smells so goooooooood!
Be aware to use glasses in the sun

Yes, I did use Z-6 between all coats per the Zaino Web site:

"8. Use Z-6 "Gloss Enhancer" spray as per directions, between each and every coat of Z-5 or Z-2. It really helps give a three dimensional look."

I followed all of their application steps and used their tips & tricks.

I really wish I had a better paint job because, like I said, the good spots look GREAT. Glad you have a good paint job; I'm sure you'll stay very happy with the results. The Zaino does seem to hold up better too.

BTW, one of the imperfections in my paint is "Orange Peel" in many areas. That really showed up with the Zaino. But has anyone noticed how many of the new cars (seems like all of them) have Orange Peel? I'm talking the expensive ones too. What's up with that? Is that the new paint they're using these days? If I ever pay $2k for a paint job it better not have that defect.

Jerry,

OK, I will try this.
Will have to check out if the german distributor has it also in his tips and tricks!

The orange peel can be eliminated by paint shops or by car detailers.
They use a 3M stuff and grind down the orange peel. You cant do this very often, cause the abrasives will thin the paint!
Eventually first add some clearcoat (if the car is clearcoated!)
Then polish down by the pro´s.
You will have to use a professionals air powered tool to apply the 3M properly, cause this stuff need heat and pressure to set the abrasives free!
Hope this helps!

Ah, and you are lucky to pay only 2 K $$$$ for a paint job!
The germans start (!) at about 4 K $$$ and this is not the best one! :mad

Yes, Zaino is a very good product. With my first coat, I wasn't that impressed until I used the Z6 enhancer spray right after the Z2... it really blew my mind how much shine I was getting!! Now I'm a Zaino junkie on my 5th coat :reddevil

Black really attracts dirt/grime/etc, but once black gets clean and Zaino'd there is nothing like it!! Can't wait to see your pics!

Gerrit,

there should be a silver award!

PS: Did you report the car´s new dimensions due to the thick layers of ZAINO to the german TÜV ????? :D

But pay attention, I will follow close!
The next layer will be Z-6 and then alternating Z-5; Z-6; Z-3, Z-6; Z-5; Z-6; Z-3.......... (to be continued!)

I will keep an ZAINO Logbook for the car :blueangel:

Hi Frank and Gerrit!
Do you think it´s a good idea to use zaino on a freshly painted car?
I´ll have to wait for a few month before taking my vette to the paintshop for the final paintjob, but I could already order the miracle stuff...
Greetings from Austria
PS: Today is a wonderfull day - sun is shining and I´ll be in the cold garage once again :(

Default Re: Mile deep shine on my Black 68 Vette...... (MARKUS_P)

Markus,

should be no problem at all!
ZAINO is non abrasive, even the clay bar does not tangle the paint surface!
The clay just removes the dirt and it is moiturized by a Z-7 / water mixture!
Go the whole way and buy all the stuff!
You will need the Z-1, Z-2 or Z-3 (depending on clear coat or not!), Z-5 to buff out swirl marks, Z-6 as a gloss enhancer and Z-7 for washing the baby.
When the paint is new, the clay bar is not neccessary then, but soon when you drive the Vette, insects will collect on the front snout....... :mad
Its just a miracle, mile deep shine!
I´m still totally happy about it!
Can´t wait until tomorrow evening when I will see the baby again - nice and black and shiny! :D

You guys are putting up great testimonials for Zaino, I'm curious...How much do you use on one coat? Would this help with a faded black vette? I have a black vette in dire need of a paint job or at least some way to get rid of the purpleish lookingness from being out in the sun too long so i was wondering if this might be a good temporary solution.

Thanks

I used about 1/5 ounce of Z-3 for a coat, a little goes a long way!

As by your question for the faded black paint:
If you have clearcoat, you probably can sand it with a 2000 grit paper and polish it with a hightech professional paint restorer.
If you have color as a first coat you probably should use paint cleaning abrasive polish first to remove the oxidation residues from the paint.
I doubt that ZAINO can do miracles on an already faded paint. It s more a gloss enhancer that creates an optical perfect finish.
I will try it on an old car behind the barn. But I guess I can already tell you that according to another post in this topic the bad spots will stay bad.

Oh, by the way : I´m just a satisfied ZAINO user and don´t get paid by them (unfortunately! :D )
Should I send them this post and claim for a free bottle of Z-3 ??? :jester

Hey guys,
the weather stays very bad here in Germany - therefore I wasn´t able to get a proper photoshot of the paint and gloss.
Have to wait for sunshine to make it really impressive!
Sorry!

Matt, I saw in your sig that you have a Recurve kit from Lars.
How does it work?
Can you tell me?

For all the folks waiting for the sizzling pictures of the black ZAINO Vette - Sorry, was with the car today, wanted to take some shots but the weather was this bad again.
Sorry guys, I guess it will take some more time...

I ripped off the soft-top today - the baby gets a brand new one in glacier white!
The Top frame is in a rusty but good condition. It will get sandblasted the next few days and will take a trip to my powder coater then.
Do it once and do it right! :blueangel:
