Default Can a 99+ PCM be fitted to a 97 C5?

Can i swap a 99+ PCM into my 97 C5? I know F-bodies do this alot, but has anyone done it on a vette? I would like to do this for EFI LIve tuning features, thanks in advance!

EDIT- 2 months later and i have completed this swap. all is good and im very happy with the outcome, here is a link to my writeup with pics on how i did this

I know the connectors are different, f-bodies are as well, but we re-pin the f-bodies to accept the newer CP and it works just fine, im just concerned with all the extra computer stuff on the vette if this can be done or not

BuY the April issue of GM HIGH-TECH PERFORMANCE it describes the differences and exchangability between the PCM'S. Plus some after market items designed by GM engineers.

Yes it can be done. You need to purchase the new pcm bracket that holds the ecm into the car from a 99 model. Connectors are the same. Need wiring diagram for 98 and 99 pcm's. Sit down with some tape and label each wire as you remove it from the 98 harness. Re-pin it to the new locations and all will work fine.

Ideally, you're concerned not only about mapping the harness to the correct locations in the connectors, but also whether or not the signal those wires carry (i.e., the environment external to the PCM) is compatible with what the (new) PCM and it's code will expect to see and produce.

This is pretty easy to verify with simple linear voltage sensors and actuators, but a bit harder with some other data, e.g. anything in the EBTCM interface. I haven't seen much discussion of that point when this topic comes up. Recalling that there was new software in the second gen (?) ABS/TC stuff (maybe '00 I think?) it would be nice to know that none of that was exposed in the interface between the PCM and EBTCM. I wandered down this path for a while but got sidetracked and never finished verifying what was/wasn't compatible. I don't even know if all the information necessary to assess this is readily available. It's certainly not all in the factory service manual.

I think you can order back issues of GMHTP online. All I found searching there though was the EFI Live article.

Default back issues

Just go the web site www.gmhightechperformance.com and select back issues. I checked and it is available. Good luck.

Slightly more resolution for some tables & A few more misc. tables. For 99% of people its probably not worth the effort. But I do commend eurospec on his conversion...theres no way I would've gone that far on my 98 for a little more resolution.

A little more resolution? Alot more is more like it, plus real time tuning, ability to use custom operating systems, i cant think of one reason why not to do this. If you know what your doing and have a good tuner with EFI Live then this doesnt take more then a day to do.

Foff667, "Doc" is one of my best friends, thats his legs and hands you see in those pics taken in his garage lol so he gets most of the credit here, its his tuning abilitie that made this happen.

Did you put the wires back in the same connecter's,But just in a different spot? How did you get the wires out of the plug?So you just label the wire with the number where it goes in to the plug for the new pcm and either blue or red for the color plug........Thanks .................Paul

yes back in same connecters, just different spots.

when you unplug your harness from your pcm youll see red and blue caps on the front of the connectors, take those off and each wire comes out individually be pulling on the release tab.

and yes, how you described is exactly how i labeled them

Roadrunner is available for 98's so the real time tuning is available for them and there are 2 bar custom operating systems available for 98's as well

So yeah slightly better resolution is one of the few advantages.

i dont get why you say slightly, have you compared the resolution between a 97-98 pcm, and an EFI Live custom operating system, the resolution difference is HUGE

theres alot more to EFI's COS's then that 2 bar MAP, such as having your motor tune and having your nitrous tune avaliable at the flip of a switch in your car for example
