Default AFR 205's (346 CID) 488 RWHP / 453 RWTQ !!

Thought I should post up now that my dyno tuning is done. I started out with a stock '98 C5 with VariRam CAI, LGLT headers/high flow CATs that dyno'd at 331 rwhp and 354 torque.

Last Nov/Dec, I tore it down to do a few Christmas mods:
  • ARP Rod Bolts
  • ported oil pump
  • JWIS Timing Chain
  • LG G5X3 112 lsa cam
  • AFR-205 58cc heads (ported & blue printed by Tony Mamo)
  • AFR 8019 dual valve springs
  • Flycut Pistons
  • Cometic .040 headgaskets
  • Crane 1.7 Gold Roller Rockers
  • Hardened pushrods
  • LS6 Valley Cover Mod
  • FAST 90mm Intake/LS2-90mm TB (ported by Tony Mamo)
  • Meziere Water Pump
  • 160 T-Stat
  • ASP UD Pulley (pinned)
  • DeWitts Aluminum Radiator w/oil cooler
  • 3 quart Accusump
  • 42# matched injectors
  • MTI Coil Packs (bling)
  • Z06 Power Steering Cooler
  • A-Pillar Gages

Rick at Synergy brought it all together with the dyno tuning.

Minor challenges were:
  • Flycutting pistons
  • dropping the cradle to remove the oil pan (made my own cable hanger setup for $20)
  • tuning for idle - it wanted to surge and hunt
  • melted my O2 sensor wires twice - it gets much hotter down there (will route them up through the tunnel plate)
  • my BB Bullets are twice as loud now - I need to get something a little quieter before I get a fix-it ticket
I'll post up my dyno results as soon as I get a soft copy from Rick. My goal was 500 rwhp, so I didn't quite get there, but for a 346ci NA motor, these are some pretty good numbers. Tony pulled 510 rwhp with a similar motor, but I think he put in some secret cam sauce.
Cheers,
John

Damn nice numbers for stock cubes and heads/cam/lts! congrats

what was your final compression ratio?

were the 42#ers really necessary?
What is the duty cycle on them now?
Standard dyno tune or speed density tune?
Did tony port the TB and intake, or just the TB?
Tony does intake/tb porting? didn't know that!

show ip bgp sum?

calculated out at 11.61 CR

No...probably 30 to 36#ers would have been fine

Not sure about that...I'll ask Rick

I think those are fantastic numbers for the 205's and 346 cu in

I have one of Tony's FAST intakes I am setting up right now for installation. Just got my injectors back from cleaning and flow testing yesterday.

I'll post up my dyno results as soon as I get a soft copy from Rick. My goal was 500 rwhp, so I didn't quite get there with 488 rwhp, but for a 346ci NA motor, these are some pretty good numbers. Tony pulled 521 rwhp with a similar motor, but I think he put in some secret cam sauce along with forged pistons and rods. Was it stroked Tony?
Cheers,
John
I believe Tony's is a 383ci bottom end. 521rwhp is still impressive.

Nice numbers...I highly recommend the Corsa touring exhaust to quiet things down. I am very happy with it. Z06 TI's would also be a good choice if you can get ahold of a set.

Actually I think John may be getting some of the numbers confused and I believe the car he is referring to made 510/441 on the same brand (Dyno-Pack) dyno here in LA about a month ago. That was my buddy Dennis's car with all the bells and whistles and definitely a slightly larger cam with different rocker arms as well. Here is the link to those results which were very impressive btw....especially at the upper portion of the curve.

http://forums.corvetteforum.com/show....php?t=1627587

John....I bet the same rocker arms and a little more cam and we could comfortably crack the 500 mark.

Regarding my 383 it actually made 537/491 on Ricks dyno the day before he had his "BBQ". I have the gragh somewhere....ask Rick about the spirited ride I took him on.....LOL

Congrats on the numbers John....thats a pretty stout 346 you have there.

Any guesses to the hp increase yielded from the Yella Terra ultralights? Curious as most seem to put down the aftermarket rockers but I like the Cranes I am running.

Thought I should post up now that my dyno tuning is done. I started out with a stock '98 C5 with VariRam CAI, LGLT headers/high flow CATs that dyno'd at 331 rwhp and 354 torque.

I'll try to post both dyno charts shortly. I'm waiting for soft copies from my tuner.
