Javier Navarro wins West Coast Corvette Challenge event #3!
Javier Navarro and his blue C6 MN6 won event #3 of the 2007 West Coast Corvette Challenge against runner-up Phil Reese and his black 383 C3 at Los Angeles County Raceway. Javier went first with a .050 RT on a 13.55 dial to Phil’s .154 RT. Phil spun the tires but was gaining quickly. From the stands, it looked like Phil had overtaken Javier but at the end Javier was off the throttle for a 13.709 at 97.21 mph win to Phil’s 13.017 at 108.66 mph. Javier’s MOV was .162. This was Javier’s first Corvette Challenge win, and put the six-speeders at 2 out of 3 wins so far for the year. Congratulations, Javier!
It was a light crowd at LACR, gates opened at 9am and we finished around 2pm. We shared the track with only the Early Riders/Road Kings and three amber practice. The wind was up and blowing sand on the track, and we went down to one practice lane about an hour before eliminations. The LACR crew prepped the track for about a half hour before eliminations and we drew names out of the hat for lane assignments. As it turned out, the left lane was about a half second slower because of the sandy traction issues. One of our racers, Rocky Zarillo, unfortunately had to waste a .038 RT in the first round when he wisely had to get out of his run at about 300 feet. Thankfully, everyone at the track was mindful of the conditions, and we had no crashes or close calls at all.
Our Semifinalist was 2003 and 2005 WCCC champion Dave Dowdell, who has been in the semis in each race so far this year.
Jim Lane was first round Closest to Dial with a 14.633 on a 14.60.
Phil Reese earned the Napa Auto Parts/LACR trophy for best first round reaction time with a .058. Phil also had the closest race of the day against Henry Mynatt (C5 Z06) with a MOV of .053. Phil had a package of .108 in that race, with .058 RT and a 12.450 ET on a 12.40 dial.
Congratulations to Mark Davis in his orange C6, who earned a first round bye with .007 RT in practice. Congratulations to first round winners Jim Lane and Mike Villenueve.
Thanks again to the LACR crew.

Thanks guys, It finally came for me. It was one of those days when everything goes wright, even not calculating the finish line and slowing half way down the track in the last ran which got me in trouble at the end and almost lost it to Phil.
Hope to see everybody again on the 17th. (I'll bring my luck shirt)
