Default Hey Auto FI guys-where are you mounting your tranny cooler?

This is for all the auto FI crowd-where are you mounting your tranny coolers. Just wondering if anyone has come up with a trick setup besides mounting it on the condenser? It get's pretty crammed with the rad, condencer and intercooler.

Thanks!

I also have two rear mounted ones, but I have mine located where the stock mufflers would normally be. I am using the Borla XR-1 system, so those locations are not free. By locating them there, there is less overall line distance the fluid has to travel and they are exposed to fresh air.

Vette Drs were able to fit a thin strip in the front which seems very effective. My A4 temps have been approx 25 degrees cooler than the coolant temps.

I put my two huge *** B&M coolers in the drivers side vent. Just pull the L/F tire and pull the fender liner and there is a huge amount of room. Hope thuis helped.

I did a similar set-up!
Mounted in the rf snout (pass side) front cavity, had to fab/move the horn location but it will fit.
Used a B&M cooler w/fan (like the one in the pic of EG`s car)
temps came WAY down, and that`s before I wired the fan.
The cooler stat turns on the fan around 174*

what does "fresh" air mean? Cool air is what's important, and from what I understand the air behind the rear facia is relatively cool. This is also the area where STS systems mount the intake filters.

The is no supply of new air to the coolers. The rear fascia will enclose the coolers. What 'cool' air that is in there will quick heat up from the coolers. As that happens, the coolers lose their ability to cool the transmission fluid. I think having them there will be way more harmful then helpful.

The coolers need to have air flow across them for them to work. If there is not a source of fresh air, the the cooler will be circulating the same air around increasing the temperature of the air. As the air get hotter and hotter, they will draw less and less heat from the fluid.

^ One opinion. You assume much regarding the rear fascia and the manner in which the final product will be engineered.

Halltech. You will have to have it painted. Cost apx. 275.00 for the part and then paint.

Mine is the 24,000 B&M from Jegs. I have Andy's P1 kit, so not much room like u said. He recommended mounting it in line w/ the passenger side brake duct vent. So it is thus mounted betweent the passenger brake duct opening in the front fascia and the wheel well vent outlet by the rotor. Plenty of air flow there.

I'm in the process of mounting a B&M Hi-Tek 70298 cooler in the passenger side of the front fascia. Between the brake duct and the fender. Constructing some brackets to mount unit tomorrow. Anybody who has done this, where did you tap in for the fan power. It would be nice to use the AIR Pump connector but it looks like that doesn't have constant power. Is it possible to tap into the stock radiator fans? Has anyone tried to mount the 70297 cooler. It's the bigger of the 2 coolers. Just wondering how it fit and did anything need to be cut?

Thanks

When putting the cooler it the brake duct cavity are you cutting the duct in half or removing it? I wonder how some custom duct on each side of the cooler would work - thus tying it in-line and somewhat sealed up with a fan. Being in the sheet-metal business has me thinking. Wouldn't simply putting a cooler in there keep the heat trapped in the cavity???

HAs anyone tried one of the heatsink type coolers? I was wondering if they work or not. It could be an option.
