Default My New, Homemade 2.5" Stainless Exhaust [PICS]

My second welding project ever... following my spreader bar. I sold a bunch of junk on ebay a while back, and just spent the proceeds on straight pipe and mandrel bends, all 2.5" stainless. It took a few months to complete with everything else going on, plus a steering box rebuild (thanks to Gary ).

Anyways, here the pics. I re-used my mufflers, so it switches from stainless to mild steel right before the muffler. Everything is TIG welded except for two breaks in the system for easy removal. Looks like my left pipe is hanging a hair lower... but adjustments will come. I finished this tonight and got anxious to fire it up. Sounds much better than the crush bent 2.25" pipes, and the old ones just looked like crap. I was embarrased every time I looked at my car from the rear, and hence, didnt take a pic of them on the car. All thats left now is to fabricate up some tips.

(night pics, get more this weekend.)

Flow anyone?

Real nice. I like how you straightened them in the rear, with the spare tire carrier removed. You might want to finish off with some hi heat silver spray on the mufflers; and regular silver on the fuel tank for show quality.

Yea, I was planning on that... The mufflers look like crap compared to the rest of the system.

I'd also like to polish the stainless, but who knows if I'll ever get to it.

Nice work. Did you get your pipe on-line? I have thought about trying to do this at some point.

So, took the car out for a spin today. Put about 35 miles on in this wonderful 30* new england weather. Yes, the roads are covered in salt and sand, but I couldnt help the urge. The car is a mess anyway from being uncovered for the past 3 months of work, and I think I tend to this car enough that if any rust does begin from salt buildup, I'm right there with sandpaper and a can of spray paint.

What a difference in sound in going from 2.25" crush bent pipes to 2.5" mandrel even with the same mufflers. The car has a totally different feel, and a whole different bark. Much deeper rumble. All in all, I love it! At some point down the line I'll add in an H pipe, but dont have the time right now.. too much other stuff on my list.
