Robert Piroumian wins WCCC event #2!
Robert Piroumian and his black supercharged C5 Z06 won event #2 of West Coast Corvette Challenge in a great final against Phil Reese and his black 383 C3 at Los Angeles County Raceway. Phil left first with a .121 RT on a 12.37 dial, but spun a bit for a 1.997 60 foot time instead of his 1.787 to 1.848 in previous rounds. Robert dialed 11.50 and was in pursuit right away on a .009 RT and a great 1.666 60 foot. Phil ended up off his dial by .322 at 12.692, enabling Robert to pass by about a car length for the win at 11.928. Congratulations, Robert!
It was a full day at LACR, gates opened at 9am and we finished after 5pm. We were at our third call to lanes about 10am when a tractor from the gravel company next door drove parallel to the track, stirring up dirt and with the wind covered the track with blown sand. That took about a half hour to clean up. Later on in the afternoon, a heavily modified Mazda dropped some fluid, touched the right wall and crossed the center line in front of a motorcycle in the left lane. The bike was able to brake in time and then finished his run as if nothing happened. Those were only real delays. The barometer was 30.12 for most of the afternoon; we had good traction, so many of us were enjoying low ETs and high mph.
Semifinalists were Javier Navarro and Dave Dowdell.
Javier Navarro was first round Closest to Dial with a 13.667 on a 13.59.
Bruce Darley’s 17 year old chip off the old block, Vincent, won the Napa Auto Parts/LACR trophy for best first round reaction time with a .006. This was Vincent’s first time drag racing.
Congratulations to first round winners Rocky Zarillo, Mike Villenueve, and Vincent Darley.
Finally, the WCCC wants to express our condolences to the family of Donna Tite. Donna had worked at LACR over twenty-six years. We got to know her the past few years as she ran the WCCC races from the tower, set our ladders, and was responsible for tower operations. We saw that many racers from Team LACR had dedications to her written on their cars.

Congrats Robert!
Robert saved the best until the final round with that great light. It would have been real hard to beat!
The track was tricky again this week. One run would be good and the next one you would spin. Hard to be consistant like that. Good job Robert.

Congrats Robert!

Robert earned this win. Driving a powerful manual trans ZO6 on a very tricky track. The traction came and went throughout the day, as the crosswind blew dust on and off the surface, and the lanes changed minute to minute.
See you all at the next race, March 3.
