Rear View Mirror - Glass Replacement
The glass in my mirror has seen better days, the reflective part has deteriorated severely.
Can anyone recommend a shop which can merely replace the glass?
Paragon offers the service, $ 40.00 for the glass - $ 100.00 for labor.

You can do it yourself - push in on the glass, remove the retaining ring, let the glass come out (don't lose the three little springs that hold it out against the ring), replace old glass with new, and re-assemble.

The repro's look pretty good and correct for about $80..... but I know how you feel, I'm still holding on to my original thinking I'll get the glass resilvered someday.

Retaining ring ???
Are you talking about the Y50 mirror ?
I have a Y50 that the glass is glued in ?
Does this mean it was replaced at some point incorrectly ?
Thanks, John

re: Interior mirror: I was told by a chrome plater that they way they do it is to break the glass, re-chrome it and then glue in a new mirror. This is probably the way it was originally done as, in order to roll the bead it might damage the chrome or break the glass.

By some of the above responses, it seems to me that some folks are talking about the outside mirror when in fact Brett is asking about the interior rear view mirror. Brett, I offer no answer to your question but hope to clarify your question.

Rick,
Thanks for clarifying the subject, yes my posts are in reference to a 65 interior day / night rear view mirror.
I have found out that the mirror itself is unique as it tilts and is multi-layered.
Found a supplier of restored units this afternoon & placed an order - finally.

If you are looking for a reasonably priced replacement go to, chevy 2 only .com ,and look under their mirrors . They appeare to be the same as corvette mirrors ,I have one and it looks very similar to the 2 originals I have with bad mirror glass . Also to fix the original ,I was reading a thread that said 1, get the glass from zip or whoever carries it 2, then break out the bad glass being careful not to ruin the rubber mirror surround 3, then glue the new glass in . This is also harder than it appears and the article stated just that , and that is why they get so much to fix them .I hope this helps good luck Jeff

Yes. After the retaining ring and glass are out, you can get to the two rivets that retain the tension strap over the pivot; re-peen those two rivets, and it will tighten up the pivot joint.
