C6Z06 Bone-Stock on Drag Radials -- New Best 11.06 127.80
Great day at Maryland International Raceway at Budds Creek, Maryland. Sunny skies, a relief after three days of rain, and warm temperatures, but not too warm (low 60s), drew a large crowd of racers and spectators. I arrived an hour before the gates opened and found myself about 10th in line.
Our Corvette group today included dgdoc, waynet, Blitz, Jim, and I in C6Zs and Steve Row, Dick link, and Hardtop01 in C5Zs/C5s, and HookedUp in his very low-10 wheel-standing C2. Due to the size of the crowd, we only got three passes; but that left plenty of time to hang with this fun group, enjoying the sights, sounds, and smells of the track in great Maryland fall weather.
I made some progress in my quest for 10s in this bone-stock C6Z06. Today, swapped rear tires and ran a pair of BFG 315.35.17 DRs on ZR1 rears, borrowed from Dick Link. Had 400+ passes on these tires in my C5Zs and they felt familiar and posed less burden on the LS7 clutch that bedevils most drivers.
Today, my series was in sequence:
11.08 128.82 1.80 DA=613 feet
11.10 128.58 1.80 DA=750 feet
11.06 127.80 1.72 DA=825 feet This is a PR.
The splits on the two best passes were:
60'........1.722
330'......4.750
660'......7.208 101.01
1000'.....9.302
1320'...11.066 127.80 1320'...11.066 127.80 The Video
60'........1.808
330'......4.81.8
660'......7.248 103.48
1000'.....9.335
1320'...11.087 128.82
Dick Link instrumented my car on the two fastest passes using HpTuner’s data logger. As soon as we get a chance to analyze those data, I’ll post some comments. One thing seemed clear from preliminary analysis; Torque Management was present on the launch and the shift, exacting its toll. Also IllusionalTA from LS1Tech.com was gracious enough to spent his afternoon shooting videos of my three passes using my HD camcorder. Once edited, I’ll post a link to the best one.
So, it’s still a work in progress. Just need to combine a launch, 330’ and 330’-1320' and it will be in the 10's without mods. Hard to get those moving parts right in a single pass. 51 passes and counting. No breakage. And still not liking the LS7 clutch.
My next scheduled racing date is Nov 17th at Atco. But I'll try to get out again before that.
Best to all,
Ranger

Ranger, awesome job! Thats what seat time will do! So busy working on everyone elses car we just made the first trip to the track Friday. How many passes do you have now?
So close to the 10 second club. I'll second Thanksgiving!
If you get the right air at ATCO, your a 10 second slip for sure.

Thanks everyone for the generous words. Lot of encouragement came from racers stopping by to admire the group of polished Corvettes making very fast passes. One guy left the TV Ravens game and drove to MIR to see the "two TT Corvettes making low-11 second passes." He hunted down WayneT and me, only to find two C6Z without TT or any other serious mods. He was surprised at the performance Chevy has engineered into this car.
Thanks, Howard. I continue to have the belief that the car will run 10s at around 1000'. Just have to put togethe all the right pieces in a single pass.
By far the biggest hurdle is the clutch. It just won't take more than 3600 at the launch. Today I did three at 3600 without glazing, by ensuring a very fast release without ANY slip. With pristine clutch fluid, my pedal was completely normal today.
Finally, Howard, back to the track. It's November starting Wednesday. The end of the season is approaching. You need to get to at least 10 passes in that machine.

especially since you don't really seem like you beat up on the car.

Pretty darn nice Ranger. Wayne went up in smoke, but at another track went 11.100 @ 130.76 mph earlier in the week. Almost 131 mph, Halltech tuning and filter, drag radials and an awesome driver like you.
I will be very surprised if you both don't clip 10s next weekend. Barring and snow.

Outstnading, Ranger! It was good to see somebody doing well. I'm glad I got my R6 Hoosiers broke in, but they sure are no good for drag racing. I'll be out a few more times before the tracks close.
Where is Atco?
