Video--Bone Stock C6Z06 on DRs 11.12
Made a few passes at Atco on Monday at a well organized rental attended by an enthusiatic group for Corvette and F-body owners. Many thanks TSAB, robz, Scott, Jason, Steve, Marc, the cartek crew, and many others who contributed to a fun day. Also thanks to Corey who shot the vids using my HD camcorder.
The pass was on 275.40.17 MT ET Street Radials. Splits were:
60'........1.684 (3600 rpm launch)
330'......4.749
660'......not recorded @ not recorded
1000'.....9.330
1320'...11.125 @ 124.97
The 1320' trap is low due to a low barometer (29.38 on my TAG Weather Station).
I kissed the limiter twice on this 11.12 pass. Unusual for me. I found that the rhythm of the LS7 was a bit different on the MT Radials than the 345 BFGs I've been running.
An attempt with a 4000 rpm launch and a quick clutch release glazed the finicky LS7 clutch. So raising the launch rpm much above 3600 will not improve the 60'/330' with a stock clutch.
Back to the track at MIR on Sunday Oct 29th.
Best to all,
Ranger

Nice run Ranger !
Only thing holding you back is the 3600 launch. Didn't slingshot you out of the hole .... like a 4500-5000 one would of.
Once the clutch issues get solved ..... I see some mid 10 on DR's for U.
Go U-Tube !

That was awesome. It sounded like a very nice launch and that you were kinda gentle on the shifts. Were you? Very strong run.

Very cool Ranger - awesome to listen to your shifting.
The launch looks so "subtle" - no fuss, no muss - just the best hookup you can get out of the car with no bog!

Thanks for the kind words.
Hi Randy. I tried to drive it normally. But the rhythm of the motor and the wallowing of the MT Radials (at 21 psi hot) in surface transitions give a different feel than my usual BFGs. So my shifting was off a bit, as evidenced by clipping the limiter twice. That was my first pass on those tires, generously lent for the occasion by tsab. With the LS7 clutch being the weak link, I'm not convinced the MT Radials are a good choice for the car.
I'd like to try a pair of BFG 315.35.17s, which I ran on my C5z but unfortunately sold while awaiting the arrival of the 2006 Z.

Ranger,
Great run! I just purchased a pair of the M/T tires and will let you know my take on them this weekend. How many passes did you make and was the 11.50 rule an issue?

I made about 50 passes on my '02 C5Z running MT Radials. On that car with a stock LS6 clutch, they required 4600-5200 to avoid the bog.
Hope to see you at MIR. Also hoping a swarm of sub-11.50 C6Zs won't bring out the worst in track officials.

Very nice Ranger. That's a 2cnd gear burnout I assume? I haven't tried that yet. Is it easier on the clutch? I could only manage to launch from 3K without spinning wildy last weekend on my 315 bfgs. I did pull a 1.66 60ft launching at 3k. That was with no wheel spin at all though. I think if I get more heat in the tires with a 2cnd gear burnout I could launch higher. Any thoughts?

As far as playing the role as decoy, not sure that's going to work unless someone brings another Black C6Z.
The 11.50 rule is really starting to interfere with our progress (and fun). Other than lobbying NHRA, wondering if anyone considered putting a roll-bar in their car?

But again, I don't recommend jumping on this MT Street Radial with a stock clutch. At least until the bleeding edge guys figure out a launch approach.

I sent my letter to NHRA and even talked with a couple of NHRA tech guys at the Dutch Classic last Saturday. The more letters they receive the more chance of forcing their hand. Their fax number is on my previous post!

Tell me again, please, which wheels and 17" or 18" BFGs?

WOW! Way to go Ranger. Below 11 can't be far away. TC still has a hold on us all.

Great run Dr. Ranger. If you wouldn't have bogged out of the hole, you could would have been rewarded an 11.0 time slip...even after hitting the rev limiter.
Once again, Atco is the track to be for fast times... My old Street Renegade 5.0 Stang always run it's best at that track, second was Gateway in St Louis!
Congrats.
Carlos.

Good seeing you again yesterday John, that classic great fall/winter air that we all seek just wasn't there and you were using tires that are new to you at this point, all things considered you still generated some extremely stellar time slips.
See ya at the next one.

And yes it does have a hold on us untuned types, I feel it rearing it's ugly head all of the time in my LS2 auto.
