Default 2009 base engine news? Come inside.....

Found this on LS1tech.com:

"
CC: Are the rumors of you teaming up with GM true or false?

Saleen: My team just worked with GM last month on the Transformers movie. We had such a good relationship with them that we are infact going to team up with them on future projects?

CC: What future projects?

Saleen: Well the Camaro project is one of them, I've watched from a distance while they've been putting the production model together. I think it would be foolish on our part if we didn't get a part of that action (Steve laughs).

CC: So are you going to do your own versions of the new Camaro?

Saleen: It's not legally official right now, but that's what we're hoping for.

CC: What kind of upgrades will you make, have you seen the engine GM is using in the Camaro?

Saleen: I hope I don't get in trouble with GM for saying this, but they're using a 6.2 liter 450 horsepower engine for the premium V8 in the 2009 Camaro and the base Corvette. The base V8 will probably be a detuned version of the same 6.2. So we'll just upgrade the 6.2 liter V8 to Saleen level specifications. We're going to upgrade the 6.2 liter V8 if we're given the legal chance by GM. Our base model should have around 485 horsepower, and expect our Extreme Supercharged Camaro to have over 600 horsepower. "

450 hp in the base Vette sounds alright to me! Nice to hear that we may see that engine in the new Camaro as well, although if it is the top model Camaro it is going to fall well short of the GT500, hopefully it will still be able to out perform that vehicle.

No problem.

I am wondering what we will see in the Z06, it looks like both the Base and "Blue Devil" will be using the 6.2 litre engine, will the Z06 be using a variant as well?

Nice find, but I hate the idea of camaro having the exact same HP as the corvette. Will the camaro be heavier than the corvette? I hope so, because who wants some camaro running as fast as your vette you paid good money for?? I sure don't They really should boost the corvette's HP or reduce the Camaro's so they don't compete as much with one another.

Kind of sucks we don't get the 6.2L upgrade for 2008 Corvettes.

I hope that the zo6 keeps the 7L v8..why would they want an engine with lower performance and tweak from there when they already have a proven platform with the 7L? They can do more with the 7L.

Don't forget that we are talking about the flagship Camaro model vs the BASE Corvette model. And I wouldn't worry too much, the C6 with same HP will beat the Camaro SS in any and all performance categories.

The hp is just a number, there are a ton of things that separate Camaro and Corvette. But if you can't get passed the hp # being the same, there is always the Z06 and Blue Devil!

Kind of like the GTO with the 400 hp LS-2.... I hate that so much I had to go out and buy one!

Looks like we'll have to wait until '09 before we see that horsepower bump in the base C6.

In all fairness, it didn't say that. It was simply comparing 2009 Corvettes and Camaros. He didn't say anything about the 2008 Corvette, nor did he mention the 2010 Camaro (The REAL GT500 killer) that won't be available during the first year of production. What if he would have said back in 1996 that GM was going to use the LS1 as the premium engine in the 1998 Camaro and the base Corvette? That statement, while accurate, doesn't show that the 1997 Corvette would also have the LS1. Just food for thought.

Default 6.2L Engine Production and Fitment

From what I've read, the "new" Corvette motor goes into production in 2008 CY as a 2009 model - as confirmed by Saleen.

The C6 costs a lot more than a Camaro. I hope they make the base C6 engine different than the top line Camaro or else there will be little reason to buy a C6.

I don't think so. The LS2 is only made at one plant and that plant is scheduled to close in spring 2007. There is no other plant that makes the LS2 so the 2008 C6 must have something else.

Steve Saleen never mentioned the 2008 Corvette, nor did he infer that the 2009 Corvette would have a new for that year engine. You're reading too much into it. Besides, the LS2 is going out of production in 6 months.

You know, I was just thinking about something. If Saleen is doing something for the Camaro, is it possible he will be doing something for the Corvette? Things that make you go hmmm.

Default hoping for 6.2 in 08 vette

well, the new camaro , from the look of the prototype, will need at least 450 hp since it may weigh close to 4000 lbs. IMO I hope they decide to build a Camaro that looks nothing like the concept car that's been making the rounds.

From what I have heard it's 08 for the new 6.2 450 hp base engine in the C6. If that is the case my 05 will get replaced with one of the first 08s. If it turns out to be 09 then my 05 will stay in my garage a year longer.

Why is the LS2 out of production in 6 months?
