WONT START - Where to next?
So - I go to start the car - and click..
kinda sounds like the click click click that you get when the battery does not have enough to start the car.........
so
I took the battery back to the place and they stated that it is fine - pushing out over 800 cold cranking amps..........
so
I put the battery back in and still that same - CLICK
so
I ask you all - where do I go from here?
The only thing that had been giving me trouble in the past month (aside from the over heating which I have since fixed) is that the ignition switch was getting tight.
When you turn the key it gets really tight sometimes and by moving the piece behind the actual part where you turn the key - it seemed to be OK.
OK
I look forward to telling me where to start.........

Hold the horn button down while you try to start. If the horn quits blowing when you hear the click (or should hear the click), you have either a bad battery or poor battery cable connections. If the horn blows loud and you have a "click", more than likely it's the solenoid.
Try that and see what happens.

Been here. I suggest the big red wire coming thru your firewall by the steering column. The cheap blade connectors in the wire loom just don't cut it after 40 or so years. Have someone tweek the wire down at the engine side of the connector while you crank it. Bet it starts. I didn't want to buy a whole wire loom so I just hard wired mine. Been perfect for years now.

If you have an older set of cables on your car check both ends of the cables for corrosion. At times the corrosion can occur under the insulation jacket of the cable as well as in the soldered end of the cable. The connection may be clean at the battery and starter/ground but be a beautiful green under that insulation jacket. Happened to me once. Dennis

If the horn won't blow, lights don't work, and other mystery items on the dash, go to the red wire Master Dave was talking about. That wire feeds the ignition switch and most everything else inside the car.

Chances are it is a loose connection- I prefer to trun the headlights on and then try the starter- if the lights go out, it is something loose. The lights draw a lot more juice than the horn. In my 63, the headlight motors and power windows don't work well with a low battery.

My 64 had a dying battery and the headlights rolled out so slow I had to start 15 minutes before I needed them. When I replaced the battery I re-did the big red wire too. Been OK now for 3 months and the lights roll out in about 10 seconds.
That big red wire is a bugger......
