Default Finally!!! I painted the car.......

Well after many months of body work and freaking out, I painted the shell of the car today. Other than my neighbor coming over and giving me the third degree about the exhaust from the paint booth I built, things went great. Of course there are a couple of spots that will need some serious wet sanding for trash, but all in all I'm very pleased. It didn't turn out as good as I had hoped, but it is much better than I expected. Thank God it's finally over. Next the hood and doors. Here's a couple of pics.

PRIMER:

BASECOAT:

CLEAR:

Looks Great.....is that torch red?

I noticed that you left the headlights in place...be very careful lifting them up the first time and make sure that there is a good gap between the rear of the assembly so it doesn't hit the body and do this:

That was a day old paintjob......the bodyman had built primer, paint, and clear up so thick in that area that it did that the first time I lifted the headlights...talk about being sick to my stomach. I made him fix that btw.

Either way you saved a whole lot of money by doing it yourself...good job

Man!! You got the clear coat going on just great, no orange peal from what the pic’s show. Very good looking paint job. What brand of paint did you use?

Very nice! Not easy to do right...I tell ya, there's nothing better than divin' your own ride in your own paint. I shot 4 B/C & 3 C/C's... I then wet sanded 800, 1000 & scuffed. I then shot 4 more clears. I did this to pad mistakes durring color sand & buff. I probably ended up with a total solid 4 C/C... Muddy

Thanks for the advise on the headlights. I think I'll have enough clearance. The color is actually called "super red" or "flame red" code 81U or 81 from GM.

Thanks! I went with Nason basecoat from Dupont. I couldn't afford the ChromaBase. The clear is made by Southern Polyurathanes, Inc. The local jobber recommended it and MAN was it awesome! Flows extremely well and has great shine. I highly recommend it. The gun probably had a lot to do with it. I got a Devilbiss GFG-670 Plus and it was fantastic.

Just one more question, what size tip did you use when spraying the clear? I've shot SPI before and I never got that that type of level out flow. Great job!!!

Thanks for all the great compliments guys. This thing scared the hell out of me and it's glad to know the toughest part is over.
Vettkeeper, 1.3 with base and 1.4 with clear. That clear is a bit thicker than your everyday stuff. They recommend a minimum of a 1.4 tip.
