Pictures: Me and the Z06 on the Nurburg Ring
Last week I went to the famous Nurburg Ring with a group of car nuts calling them self Ring Runners of Sweden.
We left Sweden late at night to take the ferry boat from Trelleborg to Travemunde in Germany. We were about 30 sports cars in the group. Lots of Ferrari 430's, Ferrari 360 CS and Porsche 996 GT3 RS, my Z06 and a C5 Z06. Obviously someone thought that we would have a Gumball race through Germany as the German police followed us all the way to Nurburg. We got stoped by the police many times and each time they checked the papers for the cars and gave us a lecture the we shouldn't think that we could have illegal street races in their country. As we would ever have had any thoughts like that.
In spite of the police, slow traffic through road works an "Stau" on the Autobahn we finaly could leave the A1 and turn off on the curvey roads leading to the small village called Nurburg.
The two first days in Nurburg where spent with trying to learn the lines of the Green Hell. This was my first time on the Ring so I can tell you it was no holliday.
On the third day the Scuderia-Hanseat course started whith a line up on the GP track. It was realy amazing. About 300 sports cars from all over the world in one place at the same time is a great view.
The following three days were spent learning the Ring in sections under the professional supervision of the Scuderia-Hanseat instructors. Lots of driving at the Nordschleife but also on the GP track. All was very professional and I could recomend the Scuderia-Hanseat to anyone who wants to learn how to drive on the Ring.
I can tell you that the Z06 performs very well on the Ring. The mighty torque of the engine is awsome in the mighty hills and the Horse powers helps on the streches.
We left Nurburg at 5 AM in Sunday morning which was very good.Almost no cars on the Autobahn until Hamburg. So we decided to make a few top speed attempts with the Z06. Speed was messured with a hand held GPS. On the first attempt we reached 328 km/h and on the second attempt 331 km/h at 6300 RPM in 5th gear!! Amazing as the official top speed is 320 km/h (198 Mph).
It was a great week and I will return ASAP as I now have the Nurburg Ring poison in my body!

Wow! Sounded like a lot of fun. Beautiful cars and a great track. I think 205 MPH might be a record in a stock Z06. Did it feel stable at those kinds of speeds?
Were you clocked on the Ring? How did you fare against the other exotics?

Also, what type of experience do you have on a track before this adventure?
Great pics, any more?

INCREDIBLE!!!!! Congratulations on your successful conquering of the 'ring. Many first timers don't come out unscathed (especially motorcycles).
This is a dream of mine that will some day come true!
More pics please!!!!

That sounds like a fantastic time! The top speed you hit is astonishing!
I would also like to hear how the C6 Z did against the F430 and the P cars.

Cool, It must have been great lapping the "Green hell" in a Z06 . what was your best lap time in the ring. I averaged 13 min in my first two laps in the Nurburgring a month ago in a BMW Z4.
Man did I miss my C6 when I was there.

Congaman, Great story, and fantastic pictures. I'm sure it takes a while to learn the ring, but I am curious about the top speed run. What tire pressure did you run, and what did your car feel like at 200mph....light?, squirrelly?, stable?
