Default Advice needed on changing a SB to a BB car

I want to chang out my 350 to a 427 motor in my 66. What all will I need to finish the job correctly?
I know I will need
Radiator,
7 blade fan
radiator shroud
New tach
new oil gauge 80psi
BB front springs
sway bar ????

What all am I missing. I would like to have a good inventory before I start changing out the motors.
Thanks George

I am currently building a 66 BB clone, You will also need BB hood, watch your intake manifold choices you put on it as clearance is an issue if you put anything other than stock. I am putting as Edel brock performer RPM on mine, have not tried the clearance issue yet as I am still waiting for hood to get here. I think there are motor mounts that will help a little bit. Maybe somebody will chime in one this as I am wondering too. I think a 67 BB hood has more clearance than 65-66.

Also on the bb cars there was a dimple in the front cross member so that the pully in theharmonic balencer would clear--i can send you a pic of that part if needed--Glenn Good luck it'll be worth it

BB radiator support, electric fans if want to drive it, don't forget to change your fender emblems. They also have an air cleaner assembly that sets lower than normal for clearance issues and also 2" air filter elememts vs. 3". Replacing air cleaner wingnut and stud on top of air cleaner with chrome headed bolt will also help about 1/4" on cleanance issues.

The fuel line is different.
Molded "S" fuel line to fuel pump.
Driver's side hood support.
Is this going to be an air car? I've only got a 5 blade fan.
Lose the expansion tank.
What HP are you going for? TI was only required on 425hp.
Diff side yokes with caps, not straps.
Almost forgot................sidepipes

I think they all have this after the big blocks came out (mid-1965) in them.

all 66big blocks used an 11" clutch with a 14" diameter 168 tooth flywheel, EXCEPT L-88 (which used a 10.4" clutch with a 12-1/2" , 153 tooth flywheel). '444' (cast at top) clutch housing designed for use with a 14" flywheel. It was used for 1966 and very early 1967 Corvette with 427 (except L-88).
Other BB-SB differences:
instruments (80# oil and possibly 5kredline tach)
steel line from high limit oil pressure gage to engine.
front springs (tagged)
front AND rear sway bar with 2 trailing arm holes drilled to mount the rear bar.
BB cables with riveted cable clip near RH (pass.) side of tunnel opening
BB and SB A-C cars have a LH battery holder and a washer bag
brass GM radiator, plastic shroud
no aluminum expansion tank, mount holes filled from bottom
hood with intake port(s) and LH support after 65
all engine accessories except A-C compressor and PSpump
power steering pump hose and fitting
clutch cross shaft
lower splash shields have different exhaust cut outs
2.5 inch exhausts
exhaust heat shields
.375 fuel line pointed forward for BB pump
at, au, az, fa, fb, fc code stamped on differential
tapped differential yokes with bolt on caps
BB throttle lever curves back from pivot toward rear of car, SB is straight
TI box bolted for HiPerfBB on LH wheel well and its wiring clip under the master cylinder
Registration weight shows BB added to the (327 with 3 speed) base car:

I'm planning to put a 502 into my '63. I would be interested in seeing a picture of that dimple thats needed in the cross member.

You will need about $10K worth of parts.

You will need to cut and mod your cross member.

Don't forget about moving the battery to the driver's side and then the need to add the removeable panel in the lf fenderwell for battery removal/installation access. And some fatter rear tires !

All '65 and later cross members have the 'dimple', here is a shot during restoration of a '65 L78.

you will need a hood among other things and the edelbrock performer rpm will NOT fit unless you modify the air horn on the holley(chokeless)....if you are trying to clone the car you will need the gauges etc. but only if you are doing a total clone car....the fuel supply line from the tank is different from sb to bb and you will need exhaust manifolds and all the pulleys and brackets required to run the water pump and alternator..the 66 accel. lever is the same for bb and sb....the battery is on the pass side,(non ac)....the flywheel and clutch will work from the sb but if you go with a gen VI, they are flywheel specific and require changing everything...all these parts are available from suppliers and although expensive, they are better fit than some of the "speed shop" equivelents....good luck....you already have the dimple on the frame...

George, as I am doing the same thing, changing my L79 over to a L89, I can tell you to fill the back of the trunk with cash and find the most knowledgable Corvette restorer/engine builder you can. A lot of what you need to do depends on whether you are trying to create a clone that could fool a NCRS judge, or a Barrett-Jackson buyer, or whether you are creating something just for yourself. Someone said $10k for parts? Yeah, if you're just doing the engine swap. But if you want to change anything else while you got the motor out, it starts adding on to that quick. And building an clone is REALLY expensive and time consuming trying to find and accquire correct dated parts. Good luck with your build, and looking forward to finished pics.
