Default 07 GM Racing Spoiler Detailed Install Pix

As promised, here are detailed installation pix with comments !!

1) Use torx screwdriver to remove tailights. Leave them hanging, they are not in the way

2) Access existing spoiler mounting studs through tailight opening. Use a 10MM deep socket to remove 4 nuts from studs.

3) Remove four mounting studs and CHMSL from existing spoiler and transfer to new spoiler. Vise grip at base of stud can be used to remove stud.

4) Studs and CHMSL installed in new spoiler

There is a problem at this point that didn't show up until the spoiler was installed.

The center most two studs that hold in the CHMSL install in a more recessed manner then on the stock or Z06 spoiler. This causes the stud not to protrude enough into the body cavity. You can't get the nut on.
Good news is that even without these two securing points the spoiler is on very solid.

5) Cut out the supplied template and tape to the body as per the instructions. Use a Phillips head screwdriver to gently center punch the four holes that must be drilled

6) Drill a pilot hole first on the center points, then enlarge with a 1/4" bit. Body is soft, so low speed and no pressure required on drill. End result as below

7) The center opening for the CHMSL connector MUST be enlarged. Use a utility knife to cut toward the hatch.

8) Install the four supplied tinnerman nuts to the new spoiler. Pull the mask off the VHB tape, and install on the car !!!

[9) The install is the reverse of the removal. Helpful to use a swivel head 1/4" drive ratchet with 10MM socket to tighten the two new outermost nuts.

Outstanding!

Thanks so much for taking the time to document the install.

Two questions. Where did you buy the spoiler and did it come painted?

Also, love the black out tail lights. Where'd they come from.

Excellent photojournalism.

The manufacturers of the various aftermarket products we buy should take the time and effort to provide similar photo-instructions, or at least post them on their website with a link in the instructions.

Thanx a lot !

Nice job with the DIY. Your car looks great with the spoiler installed. And up to now, I thought I liked the ZO6 piece!

The spoiler is a GM part from the 2007 GCA catalogue. It is available in Machine Silver, Black, Velocity Yellow and Victory Red, and primer.
The factory finish is excellent.
Forum vendors, Beans and Fichtner can order it, about $300-$310 delivered.
Blackout taillights are molded acrylic overlays from GS Creations in Florida. Many forum members use these as you can remove them and reinstall with just new clear VHB tape. About $110.00 delivered.

Nice job and great documentation!

Looks real good, but I wish the spoilers were a little taller.

I was going back and forth with Jayme at Quantum over the rear valance. Only ordered the chin spoiler as I really couldn't get a good feel for the rear valance.

Your pictures are better then anything they show, so I may consider the valance once again.

Thanks

Looks great. I would suggest however to place a towel in each taillight opening and let them hang down the outside of the bumper to protect the bumper from scratches from the taillights resting on the bumper
