***Grond ain't got *%#! on THIS!!*** Part II
Worked on the car from about 10am until 7 this evening... I'm beat Being 6'4" 240 and rolling around under a car on jackstands is rather tedious and tiresom, but it was worth it.
Today accomplished quite a bit but also hit a few snags
Started today by taking more apart. Pulled the valve covers first.
Have something pretty cool planned for them
Here I am showing you the proper way to use a baking dish
Taped up the head to keep it all clean... waiting on my new "yellows" ('02-'04 factory springs) etc to come in.
Next I tackled the exhaust by first getting the car up... put the rear up on stands a little higher that front to facilitate a complete oil drain.
Drained the oil and pulled the exhaust system. Running HPDEs isnt' so good for the pipes wanting to come off. Stingers come in 4 pieces and getting the catback apart was a real PITA. I used PB blaster and then a screwdriver and hammer to stretch out the pipe and loosen it up. This way I could get it all out w/o having the car jacked super high. I pulled the X pipe and my aluminum tunnel plate too.
My truck serves as a good exhaust holder Nice and brown from heat exposure... no cruiser here.
Pulled the steering shaft... I was a bit worried about this part because I had heard that it would be hard. However it was simple esp w/ the alternator and valve cover off.
Unbolted the motor mounts from the bottom, jacked the motor up slowly as far as it'd go then fought like hell w/ the header Damn Kooks... after requesting help from my roomie and much we got it out.
Hit a snag on the passenger side though... one of the header bolts was so tight that it cracked two craftsman 10mm sockets... then the damn thing rounded off. Not sure what to do know, but I'll worry about it tomorrow.
We'll see how hard that side is to get out... but I'm preparing for further battle tomorrow.
You might be asking why pull all the exhaust... well.... I'm getting it all ceramic coated. Brobably in turbo black. This will help amazingly w/ heat control when running HPDEs. Due to the location of the trans/dif they can get very hot from the overaxel pipes. Coating everything will keep heat way down.
Good night

Safety Car
Looks good!
BTW, Somebody posted in the tech section not too long ago that after putting his car on the jack stands, the Vette decided to roll off the ramps. Remember there is nothing to keep those wheels from rolling off the ramps at this point. If you can, put some wheel chocks behind those wheels.
We don't want to lose you.
The damage to his Vette was one of the jack stands going through the floor. No one injured.
Keep us informed.

Cool, that should work too.
Smart move on covering the engine openings for the heads. Don't see that very often. at least not taped up like you did.

I cut my teeth on that little red truck where screwing up doesn't matter much... everything's $10 and available from the Advanced down the street.
It takes confidence, the right tool set, and having a laptop w/ the forum available at all times
