emergency kit
ok. so i wait all year to take new engine ride with new wheels and tires to dream cruise. most of yall know this, so, get one block away and hear a funny noise. turns out, lower alt bracket broke on one bolt. why, have no idea, sooooo, one vise grip later to hold bracket to broken part and no gunning of engine, i was good to go. but, it has raised a bigger question. what parts do most carry for just such an event. now, i doubt a lower alt bracket will make this list, but i would like to know what parts most have with them to avoid something like this again. now, i cannot tell you the guff i caught, just grannying car all up and down woodward, but at least it still ran. friggen murphy's law.

And......on long trips, I take my wife so she can push while I steer the car off the road after it breaks down.
Just don't tell her I said that.

I just take my Triple A card with me in my wallet where ever I go now. It is too hard for me to have the tools I might need in all my cars and trucks to be able to fix everything on the road so as I said I depend on AAA anymore. Some repairs just can't be done on the road anyway. My triple A Membership is good for a hundred miles of towing. Enough to get me home 90% if the time and more then enough to get me to somewhere to do a repair if need be. To me it is worth the $92 it cost me last year since I can use it with any of the vehicles I own. From talking to other collectors plenty feel the same way as I do in that they carry the Triple A card also. A tow in my neck of the woods is pretty expensive anymore. Had to have my daughters Blazer towed home just 2 years ago maybe 30 or so miles and it cost me around $200 or more if I remember correctly.

I'm considering a tire 'patch kit' or 'plug kit' and my trusty 12V 'Jump Box', which has an outstanding compressor in it. They also hold a charge for months!
Even better than the jumper cables ... since no other car is needed.
Those Jump Boxes are truly the greatest thing since 'sliced bread'.
And they are less then 50 bucks now...have used mine several times.

Oh also ....check your options if you need towing.....
got towed recently and checked Hagerty / AAA / and American Express..
The rates were $4, $3, ...and believe it or not.... $2 a mile (!) ....wife got that thru Amex of all people...somebody called Cross County Towing I think ...they have national contracts with some credit card co's, etc.
Until she made that 'why not give them a phone call', I had no idea I had any insurance thru them, she saved me BIG bucks that day (4 hour tow)....
Check ALL your options!!!!

I carry a small plastic (Rubbermaid) toolbox that just fits in the passenger side storage well with essential tools, spare set of points, etc., cell phone, and AAA card with 100-mile flatbed towing. If I was going cross-country I'd probably add a fuel pump and a coil.
