Default Dash Pad clip removal

Ok, i give up how do i remove the clips that hold the dash pad on my 66 coupe? I have everything apart and the dash is completely empty. i can see the clips and tried pulling on them but i didn't want to break anything. Do they just pull out, or do i need to get some fancy clip removal tool? Thanks.
P.S. No i don't intend to reuse these dash pads i'm going to replace them but i don't want to tear them up as there not all that bad.

Squeeze the clips together with needle nose pliers and rotate them. be sure to use new clips when installing you new pads.

You need to insert a small flat tip screwdriver and pry the external part of the clip open. I usually pry and turn. You should then be able to remove the clip. Maybe this picture will help!

The view to the left is removal and the view to the right is install. Make sure you check and find all the clips there are a few that you might miss.

"Cutting" the clips along the parting line with a pair of dykes works really well too.

Thanks guys, and the pictures really helped. But those darn factory guys sure put some of those clips in the hardest places to reach.

Also known to some as sidecutters.

I used a Dremel tool with an abrasive cutter to reach & cut some ot the more difficult ones to remove. Patience . . .

dkleather,

There's 28 of them clips to remove. You'll find them easy to remove as 61 Silver clearly illustrates.

Good luck!

Regards,

Jim

Well, if you don't know..............

Is "dykes" however you spell it a regional thing? What are "sidecutters"? In the context of this thread I can figure it out, but I am unfamiliar with the usage. Is it a regional term? How do you spell that short word that refers to diagonal cutting pliers?
I couldn't figure out how to spell it about a year ago in a post asking the same question about dash clips. Spelled it three different ways then. Please help me with my conundrum.

I believe that "dykes" was a brand name for side cutters that, much like "Vice Grips" , became a household name for that product. You know , like, who says " I need to blow my nose, do you have any facial tissues?'..........now we just ask for Kleenex. Free advertising !

buns, thanks for the information. I had thought it was a sort of acronym from - Diagonal Cutting Pliers.

Not sure if it's a brand name or not, but the usual spelling in my part of the country is "dikes". It's spelled both ways, however. Do a Google search on "dikes side cutters" and you'll find a world of info! Same as for "dykes side cutters".
