Default Stunningly Good Gas Milage

Yesterday I decided to do a highway run solely to determine gas milage per gallon. I fueled up at a station right off the expressway and drove 80 miles. (I know, maybe too short of a trip.) I set cruise control at the speed limit, 65, until approaching Chicago, then 55. (Got a lot of stange looks doing 55 on I355 around the City). Average MPG on the DIC, and verified by refilling at gas station after ride, was 31 mpg! I have a 2006 A6 with 9,800 miles on the odo. So yes, the Vette truly is an economy car.

I made a trip from Jacksonville to Orlando a couple of weeks ago on Traffic Disadvantaged I-95 and Construction Challenged I-4. Managed 75-80 most of the way and got 28.5.

THe car does really great. On our 6300 mile trip we average 28, 31.3 being the highest for a tank. Average spped for the whole trip was around 70 and I know I saw 105+ a few times.

Maybe OK on the highway, but for town driving it's a guzzler.
I get 13-16 mpg as all my driving is stop and go around town.
That 30 number is nice, and you'll impress your buddies, but the reality of all around driving is not so rosy.
But just maybe the performance you have on tap justifies it all...

I get 22 MPG around town, but then I don't practice racing starts at every traffic light. I have an automatic too, which means it'll get in a higher gear quickly if you aren't heavy on the throttle. Most manual drivers rev higher than they should for best economy when driving in town. Partially that's because a manual doesn't have a torque converter, so it doesn't feel as responsive at low RPM as an automatic.

OTOH, I only get 29 MPG on the highway. That may be partly because I drive fairly fast on the open road, and partially because an automatic does have more parasitic loss than a manual when cruising at speed.

Still pretty impressive MPG for a heavy high power car. It's about the same MPG I got with a 1967 VW Bug that was a lot lighter and a lot less powerful.

My 13-16 mpg is the best I can do. This is babying the car and only occasional faster start. I cruise at around 1200 rpm.
My gas mileage went from 13 to 16 just by moving across town while we remodel. I now get 2 daily but short 'freeway' runs. I live twice as far from work now, so there's no savings for me.
I got similar 'economy' with my C5 A4.

Traffic can be a bitch, especially if the traffic lights aren't synchronized, or rapid growth in the area has overloaded the roads. Atlanta is typically one of those areas, but I'm fortunate in that the route I take isn't as bad as many are. Any time you're sitting still, you're getting 0 MPG, and that can really kill your average.

I live in a rural mountain area not a city and "real world" mileage for me was 16.8(on mountain highways 24mpg)still great for 400hp.Thats not stop and go traffic,in fact that's no traffic but as soon as you hit a hill, accelerate out of a turn your mileage drops. If I drove the car hard 15mpg was my average.I get 23mpg with my 06' S2000 (27mpg on mountain highways) with very aggressive driving,of course I should with 4 less cylinders and 150 less horses to feed.

Both Vetts, the 97 supercharged and the 06 get/got better mileage than either of my BMW's or the wife's, Lexus. Also better than my Jeeps... I'm a happy camper with gas mileage on the Corvettes.

I average 22-24 MPG, every tank, in my 2006 A6. Very similar to what I got on my 2004 M6, but with more cubes and an auto tranny, I expected a drop. The DIC is also much more accurate on the newer car, actually a tad pessimistic.

1400 miles on my 2006 Z51/6 Spd, got 28.3 mpg on approximately 1000 of those miles back and forth from Greensboro to Bowling Green. Pretty darn good for a car that isn't even broken in that much.

Just finished a 4358 mile trip, WI, MN, SD, ND, WY, MT, ID, and WA. Average mph 60.4, Average mpg 26.6. Yes, this is an economy vehicle with lots of perks.

I wish my mileage was that good. I guess I have to take my time more often.

My car has about 5500 miles on it. According to the DIC, i am averaging 20.5 miles per gallon for the life of the car. That is pretty evenly mixed between freeway and city driving. I am pretty happy. The one long trip I took from Fremont CA to Truckee and back. I drove up and got 25 miles per gallon averaging 70 to 75 mph and that was uphill. Coming down hill, my brother didn't realize the car was a 6 speed and we still managed to get 27 mpg in 5th gear. About 200 miles each direction. Did it all in one day. Seats were very confortable too.
