I have a hunch about the gas filler neck
Okay, here's the deal:
Many owners with 2005's are hypersensitive to overfilling the gas tank, constantly admonishing new owners to leave it short of full, and stop on the very first hint of a click lest it spill all over the paint.
But some other owners (myself) seem to have sort of the opposite problem: I have never overfilled mine, in fact, it usually cannot be left on autofill at any station, because it will turn off prematurely after only a gallon or two. Even doing it manually, it often clicks off and drives me crazy in trying to get enough gas to make it worth stopping.
I suspect they fixed one problem at the expense of causing the other.
Let's poll and find out!

While you're waiting for others to respond to the poll, read this quote from page 5-9 of the 2006 owner's manual.
Be careful not to spill fuel. Do not top off or overfill the tank and wait a few seconds after you have finished
pumping before removing the nozzle.

Actually, mine seems to work just fine. Once the pump stops automatically, I can put just a touch more in (but usually don't) and I've never had an overflow. I generally just let the pump do it's thing and then quit...and it's full.

My 2006 is neither "touchy and will easily overflow" nor "stops early and have to keep restarting". You needed to have a "Works normally" option in your poll.

I don't have any problems filling mine. The tank fills and the pump stops automatically....I'll continue (manually) just enough to hit an even dollar/cent amount. The only minor spillage I've ever had I caused.

Inquiring minds need to know Wayne O....why do you need to get to an even dollar/cent number???

Normally mine has been perfect if I stop it at the first click. If I try and add anymore in can and has overflowed. But on my recent trip I notice in CA/OR that on many occasion it would shut off early. Both states use the same type of pump/nozzle assembly. In every other state that does not have this type of pump I never had a problem with it shutting off early.

I discovered the past the first click overflow issue on my '06 on the very day I picked it up (I took a pass on the dealership's courtesy fill of 87 octane and went straight to an Amoco station for some Ultimate 93, was later reimbursed by the dealership though), so I'm not even sure if it's a regular occurance or not on my car because I only allowed it to happen once.
It does go full by that first click though, no problems there.

I've never tried to put more gas in when it stopped and it was full. With all the warnings of spilling, I'm not about to try. I have had several times where it keeps shutting off after putting in less than a gallon. I just tilt the nozzle more downward, and once I find a spot that doesn't shut off immediately, it stays on until the tank is full.
