Default The Grond Chronicles : The Reincarnation Part 1 [Dialup; inadvisable]

Let the Reincarnation of Grond begin!

Unless you have been sequestered in a deep dark cave for the past 2 weeks, you will know by now that I annihilated my engine via injudicious use of my right foot on the way to Cruise In VII.

After many interesting adventures, Grond is back home; I began the tear down this afternoon.

First, I examined the plugs, which showed fragments of aluminium on the plug from cylinder 7 (as expected) and also oil in every cylinder (also as expected).

Then I did a compression test - the results were startling, to say the least. Cylinder 7 had zero compression as expected - but so did Cylinder 5

So I toasted 2 pistons, not just one. The other cylinders were all fine, compression wise.

So with this knowledge in hand, I began the tear down. Here are the pics.

Enjoy

EG

Compression test showed that the other cylinders were "OK" - not great but usuable

I have found that with complex mods/repairs - it pays to be organised.

Removed the intake and boost tubes

MAF shows a little debris on the screen

Pulled the fuel rails, intake etc.

And emptied it out...

Don't try this at home kids

Back to the engine - time to pull the knock sensors and the center cover

As you see, I put RTV on my knock sensors (when I did my cam)

So I can pressure wash my engine with impunity

This is what the knock sensors look like

This is your engine Oil Pressure sensor. This goes bad and you get max oil pressure. Very simple to swap.

Getting there

Valley cover removed

You can see the monster cam peeking through

Next, removed the rockers and pushrods

Good luck on the rebuild, I guess that is what happens to us with stock internals pushing the go pedal to the limit and I bet the Grond will be back with a new attitude

Next, jack up the front, drain all the fluids and move on to the teardown from below (charge tube, intercooler, rack etc.

I'll drain the fluids tomorrow night and pull the heads Tom

I was trying to get all the top work done before I jacked up the front

Just messin with ya, and certainly not making fun that it's broke (we all know it is).

You're doing a very detailed teardown, which is good.

Hopefully there won't be a recepient of the polished Grond piston at CI-8....
