Default Any danger in tapping into this piece under hood?

I'm looking to mount my new trans dipstick, and it's a firewall mount. This seems like an ideal place, right behind where the spark plug wires come down on the pass side. Just want to make sure I"m not making holes in something that'll cause the car to explode

I'm not sure on a 75 but my 1980 has a bracket that a tranny bolt goes through, to hold the dip/filler tube in place.

Mine has that too, but I'm adding some bling to it

It's Lokar's flexible 200-4R trans dipstick. The one that I bought that's currently in there gets in the way of a lot of things, so I went to this one in the hope that I can place it in a more convenient place.

I don't think you want to mount the dipstick tube anywhere but to the engine/trans assembly. With the vibration of the engine/trans assembly and the tube mounted to the firewall, after a short period of time you will a) break out the mount in the firewall, b) break off your dipstick tube, or c) wear out the tube seal at the transmission and start leaking.

Turns out it's hollow behind the firewall in that part. I just needed a place to mount the dipstick tube top. It's a flexible, braided steel line with plenty of slack. It's specifically designed to mount to a firewall.

Here it is off the mfg website:

Thanks for the input guys

Looks great!

I would install a rubber gromet between the mount and the Firewall just to be safe from vibrations.

i think you have to be careful of the heater/AC box on the inside in that area. i would take the passenger side dash off first to locate the holes on the inside before drilling just to be sure.

That's probably a good idea, I'll see what kind of gromet I can build...

That area in your picture is nothing but a mounting buldge in the fiberglass. That's why the relay is mounted there.

That's what I figured. I saw a bunch of other relays right next to where I wanted it and assumed it was hollow. Just to be sure, i only made a small pilot hole to inspect
