Default Modified Z06 TI Exhaust - Video Inside

Sorry to re-post. I originally created this topic in the C5 general discussion rather than the Z06 forum, and seeing as this is a Z06 OEM part I would think you guys may have more interest in it!

--------------------------------------------------------------------

I have never changed the TI Exhaust on my Z06 because I loved how it sounded from the factory, and then loved it even more after I put in the cam/heads last summer.

However...

A friend in the car club I am in (ShockerRacing) had a set of custom TI exhausts which essentially has a piece of titanium welded into the pipes which partially bypasses the muffler. I decided to give them a try out. It is hard to tell in the video, but the new exhaust livens the sound up a decent amount, but not to the point it is obnoxious or loses the TI sound I enjoy.

Below is a before and after video, with a couple of runs at the end to show how it sounds when driving.

http://spdkilz.com/video-audio/Video...dTIExhaust.wmv (15.1 Mb)

Opinions?

Interesting... off topic but I like the ZR3 mount...I did the samething there - mounted it by modification of the bracket to bolt to the two inside tag light screws.

Question from the almost out of noobdom. That pass through you had welded in, is that just for sound or is it doing anything for performance as well? In either case it sounds badarse! That is one angry sounding car hehe.

I had that running through an X-FI sound card and surround sound speakers all along the walls and floor...trust me it doesn't sound stock hehe. In fact after getting a couple of opinions I am like this idea! Once I get a bit extra floating about I might look into getting this done.

Technically it is to just liven up the sound, but I'm sure it helps increase the hp/tq a little bit (thought I didn't do the mod for that reason)

I bet you could feel the cam...I can on my system

Thanks again to all the compliments. I will try to get the exact specs/step by step instructions on how this was done (I was gone when the welding occured).

Didn't see it asked, but how hard was it to get that extra Ti and have it welded in?

Larry -

This is what Brandon said (I am still trying to ger more info out of him):

"The titanium pipe was $30 for a 1 foot long piece of 18 gauge, 1 3/4 diameter. I got it from www.burnsstainless.com (you must call them; it is not listed in the products list) You will also need titanium cores for the welder and Chris said it was not as easy to weld with as it was using copper cores on stainless steel pipe. I'm not sure on the cost of the welder cores.
As for the labor, Chris was very generous with that. Having someone else do it might be a little pricey.

In the end, this would be much cheaper than buying a $1000 aftermarket exhaust, though."

was it Brandon with the 3rd Gen Hawk ?

keep me informed...I am interested in having mine done. I didn't want soething too loud and your sound clip sounds great.

We can't weld TI here at the shop. I was originally trying to wled in a cutout off each area kinda where the bypass pipes are placed on yours.

thanks for the info so far
