Great series of articles. Thank you for taking the time.

Are the early housings narrower at the half-shaft flanges (if yes, by how much)?

Talking to Zeus at Tom's (a year or more back) he recommended I not spend the $$$ on my original 63 4-series unit unless it was a restoration. His advice was to bag it with the other original matching parts and build up a newer housing.

I have another housing, from a 76 or 77, but Zeus mentioned it would need a complete rebuild (my spare came with a ring bolt hole punched through the back cover so I agree). The unknown is what would the later unit's width do to the track width and current tire/rim fit combination (if anything)?

Looking at the pattern it appears that the pinion is too deep and there is too much toe contact.
Shouldn't the pattern be more centered on the tooth?

Excellent work, could you expand on the earlier [63/64] posi's. will the eaton posi fit the earlier case, what to do with the earlier posi's / recycling?
