Default Dexcool and the lawyers URL

Time to drain the Dexcool from the engine. The pita is that only NAPA carries Zerex g05 and the local NAPA will only order in 6 gallon boxes. I have to go 20 miles to a NAPA in another town to get 2 galllons (only).

Not sure if you have one close, but I was able to pick up the Zerex at Pep Boys.

No PepBoys but I'm heading across the Missisippi to IA. The NAPA store in Davenport has some. Thanks for the hint, others will need it too.

I asked the prestone site if any of theirs was a HOAT antifreeze. Answer: no.

Your local GM dealer carries it also. A might on the pricey side but with the high cost of gas it beats driving to other locations.

Anyone had any negative experiences with Sierra anti-freeze? I've been using it lately since if a little escapes to the gutter during flushing, it's not as dangerous (supposedly) to the local wildlife or environment.

Yeah - that too. Chevy just put new head gaskets in my 2005 Equinox. Howerver, they gave me a fresh fill of Dexcool.

Default G-05 Coolant

GM DOES NOT use G-05 in anything. Ford does, and theirs is yellow. Chrysler does also, but they dye their's orange--It looks like Dexcool, but it's G-05.

I use it in my 65. Works fine.

what a coincidence, my 2005 Equinox had an overflow tank full of goo that used to be dexcool...the dealer simply replaced the tank and the coolant...seems to run ok so we'll see how it goes...

Hey Magic, my bro-in-law manages the Carquest in Geneseo...he should be able to order what you need....

Our OEM testing showed that the Sierra formulation (propylene glycol instead of ethylene glycol base) was 9%-10% less effective for heat transfer than conventional anti-freeze; not a good idea to use it in a cooling system with a slim cooling capacity margin. We put a black-bordered warning in the Viper owner's manual NOT to use it, and all other Chrysler product owner's manuals carry the same warning.

I think that the coolant in my 66 may be Dexcool, since its orange colored. I will be re-installing my original water pump soon (now that its been rebuilt), and will change the coolant as well.
Is there any other G05 available besides Zerex? and how do you know if the coolant is G05? Is each brands' container labelled to identify it as G05?

Just go to any Ford dealer's parts department and ask them for Motorcraft Premium Gold coolant. It's reasonably priced also. I think Ford's list price is about $14 per gallon.

It's $12 at NAPA. G05 is the Zerex HOAT designation. Look for a HOAT antifreeze. I asked Prestone, and they replied they have none available.
