Melting Slicks
Most will agree that the stock fan and clutch work the best. If your clutch is fairly tight (kinda hard to turn) it is probably OK.
Funny I just came back from Pep Boys for a clutch for a 427. Hayden part #2711 for $40!!! Had 1/2 inch of dust on the box!! Have not verified that it fits yet.....

Flex-fans are junk - they don't move as much air as a stock fan, they restrict airflow at highway speed, and they tend to throw their blades through freshly-painted fiberglass.
The current GM replacement is P/N 3916141 (about $120 plus shipping at GMPartsDirect.com); almost identical to the Eaton original.

some like a centri. clutch
you may consider a centri. clutch. rather than thermo. clutch. i have heard stories, may change mine out for one, one of these days. after mufflers, tires, wheels and my wife kicking the sh...t out of me.

last year at Carlisle John stopped by my car as I was fighting trying to get an aftermarket NAPA fan clutch on my car and told me to stop screwing around with that POS and get the correct fan clutch from the Paragon booth and he gave me that GM part number as a reference right off the top of his head at the time.
Funny thing too....... after fighting with the other part for close to two hours (on a fan cluctch yet!) I got the correct one from Paragon and had it on in 15 minutes.
That was my first wrenching experience on my car and I think if it wasn't for John giving me that part number and Subfixer and Midyear helping me out I'd STILL be stuck on the field trying to get that thing replaced..........
