21CMC: Great job again! 534rwhp/484rwtq
Hey all!
I have worked with John Page at 21CMC before. In 2004, his folks did a superb job installing an LPE intercooled maggie blower setup in my 2002 convertible, one of the first. Took that car on my honeymoon to Sedona AZ when I got it back, never a problem with that car to this day.
When I got a Z06, I figured it was only a matter of time before John and I connected up again.
I just flew up to Dallas today and drove my car home this evening after a week at 21CMC. WHEW! This car is now really fierce...that is the only word I can use to describe it. Someone should do an 800hp TT setup someday to be clear but it's not going to be me. This is just plenty for my skill level and pocketbook.
Here are the particulars:
21CMC GT7-3 cam, LG Headers with hiflow cats, 160 degree thermostat, aircharger, and a tune.
I am looking for my camera to record the idle tonight and may not find it before I need to retire for the evening but rest assured I will put one up soon. Not as radical a lope as Lou's 600+hp car but is VERY lopey. Makes me laugh. The exhaust switch allows me to drive in my neighborhood without being arrested and my wife should still be willing to ride in the car with me. Wide open, though, it has a pretty distinctive sound to it. I don't think I am done with the exhaust note yet but it will certainly do for now.
They have done several of these packages with similar results so I'm clear this isn't the first or the baddest or the almost anything frankly. But they did a damn fine job of doing the basics and certainly deserve a nod for that. The car was done on time and they even washed all the bugs off that I had managed to kill on my way up last week.
My hat's off once again to John and his crew. Great job you guys!!

Congrats! When trying to choose a shop, I really liked the guys at 21 MC, but I went with MTI in Houston because I am closer to Houston. I drop my car off next weekend. Can't wait to get results. Do you do anything to the brakes?

Those guys are great too. No not for now. I did change out the brake fluid to Motul because I hope to autox it a lot but until I get a little more serious about road racing, I don't think its necessary. If I did, I would probably get Brembos and a HD radiator too most likely.
Good luck with your ride. Staying in HST makes a lot of sense too. I live half way to Dallas it seems so isn't such a big difference for me. Jayson will take care of you.

Doug,
Congratulations.
It is nice to see our LG Headers installed by 21st. (Thanks John) I can't post without pointing out that you picked up about 100 rwtq at 3000 rpms, which i am sure that you can feel
Have fun with your new found power, and torque.
Thanks

Hey Lou it is good to hear from you sir! There was no question for John or for me that we were going with the LG LT headers. I am so used to Corsas on my 97 car and the 02 vert that I am still not used to the sound of the exhaust but the car is a monster nonetheless.
Thanks for your good work. I still tell people the story about your finding a brake caliper for me on a Friday night when I broke down on my way to Atlanta. I am up in DFW area more often these days and will definitely come by the shop at some point.

LG, HPE, 21MC and MTI
I think I should give my $.02 on the various shops.
LG - I talked with a sales rep, who repeatedly (three times) promised to call back but never did. So I finally called and asked for Lou. I really enjoyed talking with Lou and was very impressed, however I never got a phone call back on the package price he promised. Call back and once again no phone call back.
HPE - Same thing. Not very responsive.
21MC - Really liked everything I read about these guys and talking with John was extremely helpful. Very responsive. Price was in line. Only downfall was my drive to Dallas was 6 hours.
MTI - Very knowledgable. Accurately researched all questions. Very responsive. Price was right on (21MC and MTI within $200 on a $12,000 package). Bottom line, closest to me.
I was very disappointed with LG after seeing all the hype on Corvette Forum. Before I started calling shops, they were actually my favorite due their ability to post their information.
Can't wait to post my numbers.

Very anxious to hear what MTI can do. They were initially my favorite after all of the good work they did on the C5s but haven't heard anything out of them regarding the new Z06s.
What all do you get for roughly 12k?
Thanks...

Hey it happens. No matter.
I did find my video camera last night and did some vids but the audio wasn't working. Who wants to see pics of the back of my car but no sound! Have to get the bugs off the car because driving to Galveston with the posse tomorrow for lunch and will try again tonight.

Very Cool!! 21CMC are always at the top.
Which car is faster, the LPE Maggie or your new Z06? I am curious as to how you woould compare the two.

Doug,
Congrats on the getting the car back with such great #'s. I'm disappointed I won't be able to make the lunch today. Some time down the road, I'll have to get you to give me a follow up ride.
Ya'll have fun and be careful today!

WGT-
They are two very different cars.
The maggie has a milder blower cam, pretty much stock everything else and Corsa Indy's. The Z06 has a more radical cam, headers. high flow cats and stock exhaust.
S/C torque curve is square, comes up much faster and stays about 454rwtq. By 4k rpm, the Z06 curve blows by and just keeps going to 484 at peak...so keeps getting stronger and the torque curve has the shape of an N/A motor.
S/C car is quiet, docile even at idle and low revs and lights up at WOT. Z06 is very lopey, no mistaking it for stock, and has a more brutal feel and sound to it as it gets stronger.
I'd bet the S/C would be more explosive off the line in the 1/4 mile but the Z06 with these mods would take it for ET and trap speed.
As I said at the start though, they are very different cars. One other difference, with the Hurst shifter in my 02 car, the feel was more notchy and certain. I think with practice, I'll be quicker with the Z06 shifter but I still have some troubles with 2-3 shifts sometimes under power.
For pic of my maggie car, see http://www.corvettemuseum.com ....it is now part of the NCM site logo.
Hope that helps.
