Default New Wheel Bearings Installed

I took the risk and ordered the BCA Rear bearings. For $148 shipped for the pair, I figured it was worth the try. ($500+ for ACDelco which I'm sure are worth the money)

My rears were pretty bad. It scared the crap out of me when I pulled the driver's rear side out and the hub came apart!

I haven't driven on them yet, since I still have to put new shocks on and get the hyradulic clutch line back in, but the fit was perfect and they seem pretty solid.

Wow the old one's were pretty nasty looking. New one's are sharpe looking. So how difficult was it replacing the rear one's?

Anything special you had to do or any new words you created during the process?

the rears are really easy.

remove the wheel
remove the two mounting bolts for the calipers (18mm)
take the rotor off
take the spindle nut off (36mm)
unscrew the 3 bolts (torx 55) from behind the hub (where the half shaft ends).
pull hub off

it took me about 2 hours total time.

How much did it cost you to buy both of them and have them shipped? I just finished buying one and it cost me nearly $200. Also, where did you order these from, BCA?

In the archives somewhere, there is at least one suggestion (or reference
to directions?) about a break-in period for wheel bearings. The figure
of 100 mi stands out in my recollection.

Seems like a simple enough step to take to me. Keep speeds and loads
low to prevent heating and permit ***** and races to bed in.

Incidently, I don't know if this has been discussed recently, but the
SKF front bearing is no longer available. Rears can still be had locally
and on line.

Take a look at Wheel Bearings Inc for the SKF rears
and RockAuto for the BCA or ACDelco fronts.

I just received my front bearing order for an 1985 Corvette from Ecklers.

I have noticed that it has an extended piece with teeth, on the back of the front bearing ( for the ABS sensor)

The only problem is the orginal bearing did not have this extended piece, since there are no ABS wheel sensors.

Will this new bearing fit, or should I send it back?

Have you called their support line to determine that is the correct part for your year model?

It looks like the GM part number for the front is 7470551. Perhaps they can cross reference it for you.
They also list an alternate number 12413041 the latter could be a revised number for a discontinued part number and the 12413041 is the correct one. To verify give Chris May a call at Superior Chevy and ask him which is the correct one (1-800-728-8267)

I see that and it says for later models who choose not to use ABS. Oh FYI it looks like the two part numbers generate at the same price so one maybe a superceded number. Both are about $247. from GM.

I'm not sure whether your 'SFK' is just a typo or another name
you've come across.

If you meant SKF, then yep. Like Timken, only different.

I bought them from www.wheelbearingsinc.com ($65 a piece)

These are BCA (513020), the same that rockauto sells for $158 a piece (or ACDelco's for $260). One of the few instances that rockauto doesn't have the best price.

I wish they sold the fronts, but they don't. Like I said, at a 1/4 of the cost, I'm willing to try them out.

Those look exactly like what came in the SKF/Chicago Rawhide boxes I bought at Pep Boys recently.

I also have a SKF/CR box that a NDH (original mfr) came out of.

It appears that BCA/SKF-Chicago Rawhide are maybe one in the same. Thanks for pics.
