Default Reworking My Camaro Seat Belts To Pass Through

When I first got my vette the car only had lap belts. I have become so accustomed to having a shoulder belt, I always felt like something was missing when I was riding in the car. When it was time to redo my interior I came across the threads that mentioned using late model camaro rear seat belts. I purchased my camaro seat belts and added them to the car. That was great. I let the belts come around the side of the seat and they worked great.

This last winter I ordered the parts to make the seat belts pass through the seats. I started one seat earlier in the week and got it finished. I think this is going to be a better setup. This way the seat belts will not have a chance to hit the body in the door jam opening when you take the belt off.

The process would be obviously a lot easier if I were to have done it when I recovered my seats. I finished my drivers seat and have one more to go. I am not so sure I like the look but the result of the work has got to help protect the paint in the door jambs and make the seat belts more accessible.

How do you guys think it looks with the belts coming through the seats? I should have held out for Firebird belts but at the time I got these I did not know about them. I got the grey from the camaro.

That looks great.

I'll check it out during one of the events this spring/summer.

looks good!
I don't have the slots in my bubba-redone seat covers, so my camaro belts just go around the seats, but are still a very cool & easy improvement. Just got mine installed a few weeks ago - paid $40 for the set (fyi, somebody was asking)

I'd like to do the pass-thru if I ever re-do the seats; you made the right choice.
Q: did you have to dis-assemble the belts/latch to get it to fit thru???

Looks a lot better coming through the seat, no doubt about it. I'm actually gonna be doing the same install myself this weekend, and hopefully finishing up the heat/sound insulation install too

Yours look great. The gray looks good, give the belts some contrast against your black interior.

I have to do the same thing but I also have to do the seats too. Do you have a parts list for the seat pass through stuff? My car didn't come with sholder belts so I need the seat guts too.

Here is my mod. I was having a hard time finding tan Camaro/Firebird rear coupe seatbelts. I bought tan firebird convertible seat belts off of flebay for a grand total of $25. Keep in mind these are not the belts you should use for this mod but I thought "what the he!!" for $25 bucks I could try to make them work. This was for a full set, front and back.

The rear seat belts on the convertible F-bodies have a different orientation of the inertia brake so they have to sit vertical. I had some stainless steel brackets from work laying around so I modified them to work in the stock location. The guy I bought the seat belts from threw in some trim pieces from the Firebird so I modified them to cover the brackets. I am going to dye the covers when I finish up my interior.

I have wanted to do this also. I don't like them coming around the seat and you always have to hunt for the belt. Looks good. One more project for me to do.

Can you write some more information on how you got the seatbelts through the seats? I have a 73 that I am waiting to do this on. I also could not find black F body seatbelts, and settled for the dark gray color like yours.

I have all the seat hardware for the pass through, I just cant figure out how to get the bottom bracket and the bucle through. Also, where is the bottom connected to. Is it on the frame rail bracket where the old seat belts used to pass through.

First of all thanks for the vote of confidence there. After I put the first one in I was not so sure I liked the look. If you guys think it is okay, I am okay with it.

The seat belts are from the last body style camaro, 93-03 or whenever they stopped building them. Sorry I cannot remember exactly when the camaro went away. It seems like I got them off of ebay shipped to the house for around $40 or so.

Yes I did have to dis-assemble the latch to get it through the seat. I will finish the other seat Saturday and will take more pics of the process and add them to this post.

One of the same reasons I wanted mine to come through the seats.

I got my covers and foams from The Last Detail. They are 100% leather and styled like the 70 seat covers. There are several different styles, usually it is just the way the lines are sewn into the seat covers is the difference.

I will be sure to make additions to this post with more pics detailing the process. It will probably be tomorrow night before I can add to the post. Depending on wheter or not we go to the hockey playoff game tonight.
