GMID Fact vs Fiction
I've seen some posts out here questioning whether or not the GMID program, or "GM In the Driveway" program is real. Let me assure you, it is absolutely real, and a genuine offer from General Motors to ANYONE WHO KNOWS A GM EMPLOYEE.
Unlike GMS pricing (which is offered to employees for them and a select list of relatives), the GMID program seems to be structured to entice GM employees to give their friends an incentive for buying GM. Each employee can request two certs per month, and give them to ANYONE THEY WANT...NO RESTRICTION ON BEING FAMILY. Of course, the price you pay isn't quite as good as a family member would get under the GMS program, but it IS the same price offered to employees of GM suppliers, and way better than haggling.
The process is simple, and here's how it just worked for me. I called my nearly-80-year-old uncle, a Detroit Diesel Allison retiree. He had never heard of the program (MANY GM employees haven't!), but he called the 800 number for his GMS program and verified that what I was telling him about GMID was real. He gave the person my date of birth and the last 4 digits of my SSN...NO OTHER PERSONAL INFO. In just a few minutes, he called me back with a 12-digit authorization number. (NOTE: For GM employees who are computer savvy, a trip to gmfamilyfirst.com will get the same auth. code).
All I had to do was use the code by the end of September. Instead, I called Rick Daniel at Les Stanford and picked up a 2006 coupe for $6000 off MSRP (Rick's honoring GMID certs....thanks, Rick!!). No haggling, no dickering, just a code and a price that I was able to verify myself on the gmfamilyfirst.com website! Boom, we were done!
If you still want more info, then you'll find the link below to be helpful. It's a pdf file from GM's own site on this topic. Remember, ANY GM EMPLOYEE OR RETIREE can get a cert for you! DON'T PAY TOO MUCH FOR YOUR CORVETTE...FIND A DEALER THAT TAKES GMID (I'VE MENTIONED ONE), GET A CERT, AND BUY YOUR CAR. YOU WON'T REGRET IT!!

Yes Virginia, there is GMID!
Jimmie Johnson in San Diego just honored mine and I am very happy.
GMID is THE way to go, find a forum dealer or local dealer that will honor them and take advantage. I hope its a program that sticks around for a while.

Richard Ott is definitely a way to go. I got a certificate number from him in one day and used in on a new H3.
Since forum dealers are honoring it, what a great way to get a super discount on a new Corvette.
Now, if someone would just honor it on a Z06!

i wanna thank the starter to this thread for making me aware of this program and for informing all of us wanting to get a vette how to save money.
already talked to a buddy of mine that works for gm and will be getting a gmid pretty soon so i can finally pull the trigger, now i have to see which local dealer will honor it.

Dunno where you live, but if you don't mind flying to Detroit and driving home, give Rick Daniel a call at Les Stanford Chevy (1-866-700-8388). He's helping me, and comes highly recommended here on the Forum. He's tremendously busy, and you'll probably have to leave a message, but he WILL call you back.
