lol...it sounds like they are trying to say it is normal for all performance cars to have annoying break squeal. Who are they trying to convince?
I ordered the Z51 package on my car...I hope I do not have to shell out of my own pocket for better pads if the car is squealing like a little girl everytime I pull up to a stop sign.

Maybe a good dealer will ignore this and actually want to please the customer. Theres a concept, and a good test of the dealerships if you ask me.

I saw an article in either Car and Driver or Road and Track a few months ago that said brake squeal with many performance braking systems is normal and to be expected. I'll see if I can find it again.

Should have had mine replaced when I had the chance. Mine is only now starting to squeal occasionally.

Aha! The olde "Screw you, they all do that" response. Reminds me of my experiances with Chrysler Corp a few years before their bailout.

At least the General had the courage to put it in writing.

I don't hear a lot of stock performance cars with squealing brakes. Delivery trucks, yes.

I picked up my Z51 coupe last Tuesday at NCM, and drove it back to Texas. Not a single squeak yet and over 2,000 miles.

According to GM, that's not normal. You should take it in and get the squeak added. Insist on getting what you paid for.

Glad I already got mine fixed. They are MUCH quieter and WAY cleaner.

Exactly. Picked mine up last month and was going to call to schedule an appointment tody!

Well, now what do you guys recommend for a good stopping pad with little/no dust?

I don't see GM as saying they won't address it. They are saying the changing of the pads will not work because the pads provided are the same as factory. They are trying to find a solution but don't have one yet so why pay to change to pads that are just as likely to squeak as the ones already on the car. I have also seen articles that stated many performance cars they were testing had brakes that squeaked.

you got squeaks? go to an empty road and stop hard from 80 mph and then accel without stopping back to 80 do this 3-4 times and the squeaks will be gone. to some extent all performacne cars squeak a bit

Simply amazing the GM peddles! Sir, would you like "SQUEAL" with those new brake pads? I’ve owned my share of HP cars and can’t remember them squealing like a pig every time I stopped. This however could be a great selling point for Arkansas Razorback fans.......

My wife’s A4 had the problem. Took it back to the dealer, no questions asked and.. presto NO SQUEAL!

BTW.. I didn’t notice that directive specifically referenced Z51… it said
Chevrolet Corvette 2005-2006!

It is encouraging that they are working on a solution but I think the part about the GM SPO brake pads being identical to the factory installed is incorrect. Why after having them changed the brake dust has been reduced to almost nothing. Before I had mine changed I couldn't even drive around the block without the wheels being black. Now I have no dust. Something isn't right with this TB.

It's called............ cost reduction! Don't fix and GM saves money. Simple as that.

Thanks for the post. I was wondering why my was making that sound, it started from the first week I've owned the vette in October. I just hope they make a "real" solution. Love the car, that sound though is getting on my nerves. I don't know about people saying that it goes away, it hasn't for me for months.
