Paint base/clear coat or single stage C1 ?
Hi,
I am hoping some one who has painted their C1 can let me know what they think. I am getting close to painting and first will paint my hardtop and I am not sure if I should use base/clear or a single stage as original.
Any advice would be appreciated. I will not be showing my car it is a driver.
Thanks, John

I did both my Roman Red 61 and my Glen Green 65 in 2 stage base coat clear coat. They look fantastic and do not age if done correctly. Unless you're looking to have your car judged by NCRS or at Bloomington, the 2 stage really works well for resilience and shine.

I painted mine with centri acylic enamal because I didn't want to deal with the more dagerous base clear. I believe that if you spray clear coat you need a seperate breathing air supply, that using a normal mask is not enough with the clear coat.
I shot mine with centri viper red, let it dry and then wet sanded and buffed it out.
I can post a picture but it is very big

I went with the base/clear as I was led to believe that is is pretty durable. As the car is a driver and never judged I was not concerned with originality aside from the colour. I was very pleased with the outcome. But even at cruise days there is always at least one person who criticizes the car for being "too shiny."

I guess I am on the other side of the fence here. I use single stage urethane on anything that is not metalic. You can buff, rub, and shine forever and never worry about going through the clear and never chance the typical clear coat problems as they age. If its a metalic color I use base/clear.
