C6Z06 Bone-Stock on Stock Tires--11.40 at 124.87
Last weekend I ran my first ten passes in this 2006 Z06. They were all on drag radials. Half the passes were under 11.40. Best was 11.20.
Today at Maryland International Raceway in Budds Creek, Maryland, I made passes #11 and #12; these on stock tires.
So to be clear, my car is 100% bone stock. Nothing changed from factory delivery, except four coats of polish. I carried about 30 pounds of extraneous junk in the cargo area and nearly half a tank of gas.
Density altitude was 1150' measured on my TAG weather station. Air temp was in the mid-70s. Track prep was good but not spectacular.
First pass was 11.48 at 123.97 on a 1.84 60'. Launch rpm was 2900.
Second pass, 90 minutes later was 11.403 at 124.87 on a 1.786 60'.
Splits on the 2d pass were:
60'........1.786 (launch rpm of 3200 with a fast release)
330'......4.935
660'......7.452 @ 98.16
1000'.....9.593
1320'...11.403 @ 124.87
I reached the line at a water temp of about 190 on both passes. Front psi was set to 42 and rear psi was set to 28. I warmed the tires before each pass. Was shifting as close to the limiter as I could get, but didn't make them perfectly. I did some easing on the throttle on the shift, eg NO powershifting.
About a year ago I predicted the car (bone-stock on stock tires) would run 11.25-11.35 with dialed-in driving and ideal conditions. I think today's passes validate that prediction. 11.40 with driving that is not yet dialed-in to the car and at an 1150' DA, well short of ideal.

Congratulations Ranger excellent times especially the 60' isnt that very close to your drag radial 60'
Dynoed my car today and dissapointed with baseline results but will start another thread for that .
Keep going you give us all something to brag about !!

Ranger,
Nice runs!
Do you feel that 3200 is the optimum launch RPM or do you feel that you could take it to 3500 or so and still get stock Run Flats to hook up?

Congrats on a great pair of runs.
I guess the weather conditions were near optimal since 70 degree air temps should have produced good HP while warmer surface temps should have improved traction. I look forward to watching you shave off more time.
It would be interesting to compare runflats vs non-runflats to see what impact the runflats are having.

Thanks for the generous remarks.
Hey TheJimer. Launch rpm depends on track conditions with the tires you're running. I believe I was pretty close to optimal without invoking "traction management on launch," but i can't be sure since I didn't make a third pass at 3500.
Hi Gary. Zero wheel hop in 12 passes, including today on stock tires. I warmed them in the damp area after the water box and lowered the rear psi to 28. My shifts were very fast but with some throttle lift, including the 3-4.

Good job my friend, really is exciting to see what this beast can do in the hands of a proficient driver. Outstanding #s on street tires.

Ranger -
Congrats!
Did the car get squirelly on stock tires, especially after the 1-2 shift.
That was where my Kumhos really helped the Viper pick up time by allowing me not to lift and recover to gain control.
Great job,
Howard

These stock runflats performed every bit as good as the F1SCs did on the C5Z and do so under the strain of a lot more power. But I had warmed them (burnout to mild smoke) and reduced the psi by two to 28.
On the 1.78 60', I got about 5 feet of spin on the launch and then a solid hook with rapidly rising rpm. Same feeling in the driver's seat as a solid launch in the 02 on stock tires.
I did not feel any adverse effect from torque management on the launch or shifts.

I could have had six runs in the four hours we were there. But instead I focused on cooling the car down to 145-150 (H20) before reentering the lanes. That gave me two passes. Take care.
