C6Z06 Bone Stock on Drag Radials 11.20 at 125.69
This is an update on efforts to get my driving dialed-in in my C6Z.
Made four passes at opening day of Capitol Raceway in Crofton, Maryland, this afternoon. Weather was high 40s with full sun throughout the day. After giving a reading of negative 450 feet before racing started, my TAG's batteries died and so I lack accurate DAs for my passes.
The biggest factor today was the wind. I measured the wind speed at 10-17 mph blowing directly in the racer's face. Wind was constant throughout the day and conformed to AccuWeather forecasts.
With that as background, my four passes in sequence were:
11.38 at 125.37 on a 1.81 60'
11.36 at 124.36 on a 1.75 60'
11.28 at 125.62 on a 1.75 60'
11.20 at 125.69 on a 1.73 60'
After the 11.20 pass, track staff instructed me to bring a rollcage on my next visit.
Track prep was better than MIR had on Saturday but still far from optimal. I was launching a 3800-4000 and making good, fast shifts with some lift. But my launch and shift points still need work and are subject to improvement.
Lot of good comments from the spectators and racers about the amazing times a bone-stock 2006 Z06 is making on DRs [Comments that I wish I could do just to] And that sentiment was reinforced by another VR C6Z [York, PA-based] bone stock on STOCK TIRES that ran two passes, 11.99 and 11.55. His mph was 125 on each pass, same as mine. Nice guy fine driver and experience racer making his first two passes in his C6Z. So my estimate of 11.25-11.35 bone stock on stock tires seemed nearly achievable by that guy today were it not for the wind in his face.
All in all, these were two good days of working on techniques for fast times. My driving was better than yesterday and feels at least decent after ten passes. It is clear to me that water temps need careful management. Must be under 200 at the line. Better still 195. For a stock car, that fact rules out hot lapping and requires a cool off period between passes.
After six passes on Saturday, my clutch fluid had turned murky and deeply yellow, rather than clear. I swapped the fluid in the reservoir at the track and will do so again every few days until it remains clear. If you are doing launches and hard runs through the gears...suggest you start a clutch fluid maintenance routine.
There's more to say; but I'll hold that to next weekend, weather permitting.
Finally, anyone who replied on my "11.31 thread" is given constructive credit for responding to this one, unless there are question you'd like to pose.
Best regards to all,
Ranger

That shift occurs before the traps. Going through banging on and off the limiter in unappealing to me.
If the shift points are gotten right, the trap will be above 127. I crossed the line today at about 130 on the HUD, but the traps were 125+. This because, as you well know, trap speed = average speed through the last 66' of the 1320'.

No cage for me. Car's my daily driver.
One track is now out of bounds. If my other favorite goes the same route then I'll focus on track rentals.
The Corvette Z06 again puts the pressure on NHRA and IHRA to lower the 11.50 limit for stock cars on DOT tires.

Absolutely amazing runs Ranger. By anyones standards, I'm barely an average track driver so I know that I dont stand a chance to come anywhere close to your times but I look forward to seeing what I can do. I've heard that my local track opens in a few weeks so I should be able to play around a little.
Nice job.
Nice job.

You need to look for some warmer air to get that +1000 DA and win the bet!
I think the word will spread quickly around the tracks that a C6 Z w/drag radials can go 11.49. I doubt the NHRA will change the rule, so guys will run street tires or get roll bars.

Regarding keeping the water temp in the desired range...that ought to be a subject for discussion on this board. Tuning solves it. But that's not stock.
