tire selection help
is there a definitive best all around tire for our cars? $ aside are there superior ones out there or does it really not make much of a difference. if you ask the goodrich people they say the g-force T/A KDW2. bridgestone says the expedia S-01's go on ferraris and high end porshes and bentlys and they are the best. i need 255 45 17 and 285 40 17 and just cant get a straight answer..is it cause its just that subjective? there are alot of guys here that run the fuzions and love them, and they are the least expensive out there. ive run eagles, dunlops and ta radials before and i think i liked the dunlops. but there must be someone out here that KNOWS for sure please help

I just put new rubber on my Vette. I used this site to help me make my choice:
http://www.corvetteactioncenter.com/shop/tires.html
I forgot to add...
I went with Firestone Firehawk Indy 500. The tire looks sharp and really drives well.

I am really happy with the Kumho Ecsta MX tires I put on over a year ago. Some people knock them because they are cheap and Korean, but they ride nice and grip great. Cheap and high quality. 245/45/17 and 275/40/18.

I am getting ready for new rims and tires on my 80. I am going for the Firestone wide oval series based on overall reviews and tech info. Previously had Firestone Indy 500 series on the 15" rims and they are a great tire also. I am not a company man but I like well made products and USA made also.

I've run the following tires on my vette (all 255/50-17):
Kumho
Nitto V450
Bridgestone Potenza RE730
Out of these the Bridgestones are the best and also lasted the longest.
On my Camaro (size 285/40-17) I ran the following:
Kumho
Goodyear GSC
Firestone SZ50
BF Goodrich Comp TA
Bridgestone RE730
The Goodyears were bad (noisy, short life)
The BF Goodrich the worst (got rock hard after a year and had no traction)
The Firestone SZ50 had the best performance (incredible in the rain!) but short life (12K miles).
I liked the Bridgestones the best again. Same as the SZ50's on dry pavement, almost as good in the rain and much longer life.

most high performance tires don't last long. my wifes car a 99 jaguar xk-8 came from the factory with pirelli 245/50zr17 tires they lasted 20k miles they have great handling smooth riding.

i see the problem as this real performnce tires do not come inthe 15" rim size....so you are limited from the start
