What were the symptoms of the "clutch going to pieces"?

With the car or language in general?

New to English as well?

Ever hear of syntax, punctuation, capitalization, sentence structure?

whatever he's doing it's alright if he's got a new Z06.

And I'm a firm believer in if you can understand it...it's fine.

so any symptoms or it just went? what exactly were you doing when it went?

We have observed five and half years of C5Z06 clutch behavior and I have not read of a single outright failure. J-Rod, for example has posted numerous videos of his on-limiter clutch dumps. He never experienced a failure, just eventual wearing out of the friction surfaces; but that took many, many launches before that happened.

So, while one can't rule out failure of a specific clutch part on a stressed C6Z06, I'd be very interested to read some additional details on the incident reported by the lead poster on the thread, however difficult his writing may be.

I suspect the C6Z clutch will be about as durable we found on the C5Z. And Chevy has paid greater attention to keeping heat away from the clutch hydraullic fluid on the C6Z. Nonetheless, I plan to stick with what's worked well for me on the C5Z when my C6Z arrives, and that is to swap out the clutch fluid whenever it begins to take on color.

Hope you are right. Thinking of installing an LS7 clutch in my C5, takes an LS2 flywheel to work I've been told.

Anything else to consider when upgrading to this clutch?

Hi bernrex,

I would suggest tracking down owners who have made that specific switch (to the C6Z clutch), and pick their brains.

If I were to do it, I'd be sure to update-by-replacement ALL the clutch parts including the hydraullics. I'd also be certain to mimic the heat wrapping Chevy has done on the C6Z to keep heat away from the hydraullics. Finally, I'd get on a regular program of swapping out the clutch fluid to ensure it's always fresh. That's a small step to ensure you never get a build up of black goo in the hydraullics, which on the C5Z has led to pedal woes.

It's actually not a complete sentence (notwithstanding all the syntax errors). No subject!

Sorry about punctuation, capitalization, etc. I did not realize these were so important to post on this forum. Thank you to the replies that did not rub it too hard.
I did a hard launch in traction control off mode, dumped clutch at 2 thousand rpms, I reached 7 thousand rpms instantly, shifted to 2nd then came loud noise. I let it off, shut off motor and then prayed. Re-started motor and could hear loud noise in the clutch area. I put it in 1st gear and it moved, but felt like clutch was slipping. Tried to ease it back to my home, but at the first uphill grade I could feel the clutch start to slip. I spotted an open area to pull into and called the local Chevrolet dealership, whom I do alot of business with, and asked for them to send the roll back to pick up my car.
I bought my car new on October 30th from a Chevrolet dealer in Dallas Texas. I live in Southeastern Missouri where I tried to buy my car from any dealer in the area, but no dealer could come up with one.
I checked with the local dealership this afternoon and they had just put it on a rack, and did not have any information yet. It seems as there is some interest here, so I will keep all posted. Sorry again for hurried post this morning, as I had alot to do with my day.
I do miss my 0606, and can not wait to get it back.

Thanks for the update, bdawson82.

Please keep us posted and if they do find something more than a badly glaze flywheel/PP/Disc, which would be OK after a thorough cool down, please give us the details on any parts that are replaced. Would help everyone too if you could take pictures of any failed parts, though we hope there will be none.

I would certainly not claim to be a clutch specialist, but I think the noise that was always present after initial damage would seem to eliminate a glaze problem. Also, when roll back driver arrived approx. 1 hour after damage, he started the car and it still wanted to slip and still had the noise present. Will post pictures of damaged parts if possible, along with other information.

The same thing happened to a friend of mine the first week he had his new 427. He wound it up to 6500 in first, slammed second without lifting, went for third at 6500 without lifting, but got first instead. Big noise, and car wouldn't go after that. Towed to dealer for new clutch.

( It was a Fathom Green 1969 L89 coupe with 4.11 gears )

So much for my early diagnosis, broke an axle shaft. Differential was trying to pull both sides, but would not hold enough to pull against any type of load. That is why it seemed to be something slipping. Will be an easy fix when axle shaft gets here on Tuesday. I guess something needs to be the weakest link and this will be a clean and easy problem to correct. Do not think this will cause me to drive it any different when I get it back. If you have never looked at the underneath side of your 0606 it is very interesting to look at when it is up on a rack.
